Seeking: Campaign Fundraiser (Independent Contractor)
Job Summary Mission Animal Hospital is seeking submissions from fundraising consultants interested in managing a Capital Campaign to raise funds for a new nonprofit veterinary hospital to be built in the Denver metro area. The Campaign Fundraiser will work full‑time to lead and manage a multi‑year fundraising campaign to support the organization's strategic goal of raising $7.0M. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of securing major gifts, excellent project management skills, and the ability to inspire and manage a campaign.
Location Colorado based: Requires a deep understanding of the Colorado nonprofit and fundraising landscape.
About Mission Animal Hospital Mission Animal Hospital is currently located in Minnesota and is a full‑service, independent nonprofit veterinary hospital striving to increase access to care by reducing barriers to care. We have served our Minnesota community for eleven years and are one of the largest and busiest hospitals in the state. Our Goals Mission Animal Hospital is planning to open a nonprofit urgent‑care veterinary hospital in Colorado. This second location will serve as our proof‑of‑concept model and the first step toward national expansion. The campaign is intended to raise money to build the hospital and secure a community presence to support ongoing annual funding.
General Responsibilities
Strategy and planning: Develop and execute a comprehensive capital campaign plan.
Donor relations: Identify, research, and cultivate potential major donors.
Solicitation: Conduct direct solicitations and support other campaign champions during the "quiet phase" to secure leadership‑level gifts.
Volunteer management: Recruit, train, and manage a capital campaign committee (Champions) or volunteers.
Record‑keeping: Maintain meticulous records of donor interactions, gifts, and pledges in a donor database, and prepare regular progress reports for stakeholders.
Event management: Organize and manage campaign‑related events, from intimate gatherings to public kickoff events.
Donor acknowledgement: Ensure all campaign donors are properly and timely acknowledged, stewarded, and recognized.
Collaboration: Work with marketing and communications teams to promote the campaign, develop materials, and raise public awareness.
Budgeting: Manage the campaign budget and track all related expenses.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree required; master's degree or professional certification (CFRE) is a plus.
Experience:
Minimum 10+ years of fundraising experience, with a proven track record in capital campaigns or major‑gift solicitations securing six‑ and seven‑figure gifts.
Experience working in a nonprofit environment and with high‑level volunteers or board members.
Preference for experience in the animal welfare community of Colorado.
Skills
Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to create compelling campaign narratives.
Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders.
High‑level organizational and project management skills, managing multiple priorities and deadlines under pressure.
Strategic and analytical thinking, analyzing data and adjusting campaign strategies as needed.
Donor database proficiency; experience with donor management software is essential.
Resilience and adaptability, persevering through setbacks and adjusting to changing circumstances.
Financial literacy, basic understanding of budgeting and financial reporting.
Computer literacy, managing necessary data points and tracking KPIs.
