Assistant Director, Special Events The Division of Development and Alumni Relations at the University of Georgia is seeking an experienced professional to serve as Assistant Director in the Office of Special Events. The role focuses on strategic planning, coordination, and execution of high‑profile, university‑wide events that showcase UGA’s excellence and support fundraising and advocacy efforts.

Responsibilities

Lead the strategic development, coordination, and facilitation of complex institutional events, including presidential and senior‑administration engagements.

Make autonomous decisions regarding budgets, venues, vendors, programming, and logistics; manage event contracts and deliverables.

Collaborate with university units and external partners to design event concepts that align with UGA’s mission and strategic priorities.

Staff the UGA President at events on and off campus, providing direct support and communicating directions from the President.

Lead planning committees, train and advise Event Managers, and manage event timelines and production templates.

Oversee operations and maintenance of the Wray‑Nicholson House for presidential events, creating and maintaining policies and procedures.

Provide guidance on event protocols and standards, ensuring consistent delivery across the department.

Collaborate with executive leadership on special projects requiring independent and complex problem‑solving.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience and a minimum of 5 years in event management, with 8+ years coordinating institutional or high‑level events preferred.

Demonstrated experience in a fast‑paced environment, exhibiting strong organizational, communication, and people‑management skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and event‑planning software.

Knowledge of UGA policies, procedures, and fundraising standards; experience with CASE or similar standards a plus.

Evidence of a commitment to excellence, customer service, and ethical conduct.
