Tax Analyst - Tax Technology & Innovation

POSITION PURPOSE
The Home Depot’s Tax Department is seeking an Analyst - Tax Technology & Innovation to spearhead digital modernization of The Home Depot’s global tax function, with a primary focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and intelligent automation. This role is central to scaling the department's AI initiatives by executing and operationalizing solutions across core tax functions. Key duties include the hands‑on building and deployment of AI personas, developing practical use cases and prompt libraries, and creating essential training materials to drive adoption, improve efficiency, and increase reporting accuracy. The Analyst serves as a vital technical bridge, ensuring the needs of tax subject matter experts are successfully translated into functional requirements that align with enterprise AI standards.
Beyond AI execution, this position contributes to the broader Tax Technology roadmap by transforming complex financial data into a strategic asset that supports increased strategic capacity and ownership of transformative initiatives. This includes supporting the seamless and accurate integration of new and acquired subsidiary entities into core platforms like SAP S/4HANA and the internal data architecture. By focusing on both hands‑on solution deployment and system integration, the Analyst ensures the successful adoption of technology that underpins accurate, timely reporting, drives efficiency, and generates measurable enterprise ROI.
MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 80% Building solutions for Tax Planning, Accounting, Research, Compliance, and Audit Defense as needed to meet the goals of the Department. Digital tax transformation to build sustainable technology solutions for tax areas. It includes improvement of current process, implementing automation and technology‑enabled solutions, and driving a culture of innovation and improvement.
10% Participation on cross‑functional teams as a subject‑matter expert
10% Coaching and mentoring of associates in the department
NATURE AND SCOPE Reports to Tax Manager or Senior Manager.
No associates report to this role on a permanent basis, but requires the leadership of a work group: assign and review work, train and contribute to performance appraisal (but not hiring, firing or disciplinary action).
ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Education Required The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor’s degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
Years of Relevant Work Experience 1-3 years preferred.
Physical Requirements Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Additional Qualifications Demonstrate technical tax skills appropriate for the years of experience in the one or more tax disciplines. Demonstrate leadership and interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage and implement multiple complex projects, people management, and communications to both technical and non‑technical audiences. Proven analytical and problem resolution skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or a Master’s degree in Accounting, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or a related field
1+ years of related work experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
A natural flair for problem solving and an entrepreneurial approach to work
A strong interest in technology and its use in business processes
A demonstrated ability to capture and synthesize business requirements
A broad understanding of tax accounting and major tax processes
Ideally, you should also have at least one or more of the following:
AI/ML Application Experience: Practical knowledge or experience in developing, deploying, or managing AI models, large language models (LLMs), or AI personas for business applications (e.g., creating prompt libraries, optimizing use cases).
Programming and Data Skills: Proficiency in relevant programming languages such as SQL for querying and manipulating large datasets and Python for scripting/data analysis.
Data Visualization and BI: Experience with Business Intelligence (BI) tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) to transform raw data into actionable insights and strategic reports.
Proficiency in Microsoft Power Platform Applications, primarily PowerApps, Power Automate and PowerBI.
Cloud Platform Familiarity: Exposure to major cloud environments (Google Cloud Platform, Azure, AWS) relevant to data storage, lake development, and system integration. Preferably Google Cloud Platform.
Advanced Proficiency in Automation Tools: Demonstrated experience with process automation tools (e.g., Alteryx, Power Automate, UiPath) and their integration within finance/tax processes.
ERP System Expertise: Functional knowledge of major Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, particularly SAP S/4HANA (specifically tax‑related configuration, modules, and data structures).
Tax Technology Stack: Direct experience implementing, configuring, or managing key tax technology solutions (e.g., OneSource, Vertex, Thomson Reuters tools).
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
Technical expertise in tax.
