Job Description QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: 1. A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent 2. Associate's Degree or has completed two years of college coursework (60 semester hours) or passed a PSC-approved Paraprofessional Assessment
Experience: Desirable knowledge of child
development/understanding
nature of the child, good interpersonal skills, clerical skills which include computer skills and acquaintance with office and media equipment
REPORTS TO:
Teacher and/or Principal
RESPONSIBILITES: The duties and responsibilities of the paraprofessional are performed under the general supervision of the teacher or media specialist and include the list below, but they may be increased, decreased, and otherwise modified Instructional
Conducts small group or individual classroom activities based on lesson plans developed by the teacher Assists with supervision of students Assists with student assessment, grading work and tests, and collecting data for student progress Assists with progress monitoring and intervention strategies for individual students Provides classroom and media center services in the short-term absence of teacher or media specialist Continuously monitors students to ensure safety at all times
Management
Assists with routine record keeping Helps with the preparation of materials for instruction (including the
copying/duplicating
of materials, construction of displays/bulletin boards, learning centers, and manipulatives) Locates, operates, and returns needed equipment Assists with classroom and media housekeeping Helps with school wide supervision, such as loading/unloading buses Assists in the ordering and inventory of classroom equipment and materials
Other Duties
Understands roles and responsibilities of the educational staff Follows the directions of teachers and other supervisors Follows the chain of command Demonstrates dependability, integrity, respect for student differences, and other standards of ethical conduct Maintains confidentiality
Exhibits courtesy and a professional attitude at all times in dealing with the board, school administration, fellow employees, parents, and the public
Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance
Maintains confidentiality and professionalism regarding students and school system affairs
Works effectively and cooperatively with administrators, teachers, and staff
Performs all duties in a timely and effective manner
Effective oral and written communications
Maintains a professional appearance as appropriate for job responsibilities
Complies with state and local laws and policies, including faculty/staff handbooks
Performance will be evaluated annually
Performs all other duties as requested by the teacher and/or principal
