Macdonald & Company has partnered with a leading national real estate owner, operator, and developer recognized for its high-quality retail and mixed-use portfolio across the country’s premier markets.

The firm is seeking a Development Project Manager - Retail to join its Southern California office. This individual will lead complex construction and tenant coordination projects across a diverse portfolio, overseeing both small-shop and anchor tenant buildouts from concept through completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the landlord and tenant design, permitting, and construction process to deliver spaces on time and in line with lease obligations.
  • Manage multiple construction projects simultaneously, balancing scope, budget, and schedule across varying property types.
  • Serve as the main liaison among tenants, architects, consultants, contractors, and internal teams to ensure seamless communication.
  • Review leases, plans, and construction documents to confirm compliance with design standards and project timelines.
  • Direct budgeting, contracting, and delivery of landlord work obligations while coordinating closely with leasing, legal, and asset management.
  • Provide proactive problem-solving to resolve design and construction challenges and maintain project momentum.
  • Prepare project status reports and financial updates for senior leadership.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in project or construction management, with strong retail tenant coordination background.
  • Proven record managing multimillion-dollar projects and negotiating with contractors and tenants.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Skilled in interpreting leases, architectural drawings, and cost reporting.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Salesforce or similar project tracking tools preferred.
  • Ability to travel to project sites within the region and periodically to corporate offices.
