Executive Director – Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee Location: City-County Building, Indianapolis, Indiana (Downtown) Type of Position: Full time, salary Organization: Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee, Inc. The Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee (GIPC) is a private, non-profit, non-partisan organization. Over its 60-year history, GIPC has worked with mayors and their administrations to advance initiatives that improve the community. GIPC has convened the Mayor’s Leadership Council on Homelessness, supported the Mile Square Economic Enhancement District, assisted in supporting the Eskenazi Hospital project, produced a study report for the Criminal Justice Facility, addressed issues related to the city’s public art initiative, and launched Plan 2020 to define the next century for the city. Moving forward, GIPC will continue to coordinate government and business-led civic initiatives through public-private partnerships. Position Title: Executive Director Reports to: GIPC Chairperson and Officers of the GIPC Executive Committee Compensation: Competitive salary and benefits package; compensation commensurate with experience Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions Impact Leverage the full potential of the GIPC leadership network Foster interaction and communication with Board membership Build trust in GIPC and enhance its relevance throughout the community Serve as the point-of-contact for local, regional and national partners Promote the activities of the organization, its programs and goals through print and social media Establish sound working relationships with community groups and organizations to increase awareness and promote participation Work across private, public, and corporate sectors of the community Actively engage and empower GIPC volunteers, board members, event committees, partnering organizations, and donors Manage and implement plans and policies authorized by the board (often with committee support) Seek and build board involvement with strategic direction Fundraising Maintain the operational and fiscal integrity of the organization within policies set by the Executive Committee Ensure that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its work Generate financial support, in the form of memberships, to sustain the organization Enhance and expand revenue-generating and fundraising activities Provide support and direction for the organization’s annual Whistler Award event with the goal of growing awareness and fundraising through ticket, table, and sponsorship sales Seek grant opportunities and assist/coordinate with submission of grant applications Organization Management Provide leadership to the GIPC Executive Committee and the Board of Directors Keep Officers updated on the health and impact of the organization and important factors influencing it Collaborate with the Executive Committee to prepare and manage the operational budget Work with the GIPC Treasurer to manage spending, budget compliance, and financial risk Provide oversight to GIPC subcommittees and convenings (e.g., Race and Cultural Relations Leadership Network, Mayor’s Leadership Council on Homelessness, Advisory Committee, Membership Subcommittee) Represent the diverse views of Board members and leadership as a community stakeholder on local and regional projects Serve as a liaison between the GIPC Board and the Mayor’s Office Maintain official records and ensure compliance with applicable regulations Directly supervise and evaluate GIPC staff and volunteers Ensure effective communication to avoid duplication of efforts and optimize productivity Assess organizational capacity to implement strategies and identify gaps Promote inclusiveness and diversity among staff, volunteers and consultants Maintain GIPC’s standing as a not-for-profit organization with appropriate agencies Prepare for and ensure compliance with required filings (e.g., Indiana Secretary of State, IRS, Dun & Bradstreet) Other Duties Various other duties, as assigned Core Competencies 5-7 years of experience in not-for-profit leadership and management of an organization of comparable size and mission Strong sense of accountability and ability to steward the organization’s reputation Ability to leverage networks and work with diverse groups High level of business and management skills Ability to command the confidence and respect of board members, stakeholders and funders Proven problem solving and conflict management skills Fair and thoughtful management style High intellectual curiosity and strong communication skills Strong leadership, project management, and organizational skills Experience working with volunteers and diverse boards Experience fundraising to support operations and projects Working knowledge of issues relevant to the organization and the Indianapolis community Qualifications Bachelor’s degree; master’s preferred Multiple years of experience in not-for-profit management or related field Leadership experience in nonprofit settings is favorable For additional information about this leadership opportunity, please e-mail the search committee at info@indygipc.org Resumes, cover letters, and 3-5 professional references are due by end of day on November 10, 2025.
