Job Overview The APRN/PA will extend patient care and administrative services for UAMS physicians in both inpatient and/or outpatient settings. APRN/PA will be expected to provide comprehensive health assessments, determine diagnoses, implement treatment plans, perform procedures, and prescribe medicines and treatments. The APRN/PA will also manage health issues for patients, independently or in collaboration with the designated physicians. The APRN/PA will work autonomously as well as in collaboration with a variety of individuals to diagnose and manage patient’s health care problems; and will serve as a health care resource, interdisciplinary consultant, and patient advocate. The APRN/PA will also coordinate the multidisciplinary care of patients, facilitating all necessary consults, assuring that care is timely and appropriate.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
APRN Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s Degree Plus Two (2) years nursing experience with Licensed Registered Nurse in Arkansas; APRN/CPN License
PA Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of Physician Assistant program with a PA license with State Medical Board.
Current BLS certification or must successfully obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment.
Must be able to operate all typical nursing equipment essential to performing the job (i.e., scales, procedure equipment, needles, blood pressure equipment, and EKG machines).
Must have normal communication sensory requirement.
Ability to comply with CDC Universal Precautions when indicated.
Preferred Qualifications
Prescriptive authority and DEA license must be obtained after hire.
Responsibilities
Performs thorough history and physical exam of dermatologic oncology patients, including evaluation of skin lesions suspicious for malignancy, staging of skin cancers, assessment of treatment side‑effects, and risk stratification.
Performs dermatologic oncology procedures such as skin biopsies (shave, punch, excisional), Mohs surgery assistance or follow up, cryotherapy, curettage & electrodesiccation, excisions, possibly sentinel lymph node biopsies or dermatologic surgical procedures (depending on credentialing).
Develops and implement treatment plans in collaboration with dermatologists, oncologists, and other specialists for skin cancers (e.g. melanoma, basal cell, squamous cell), including systemic therapies (immunotherapies, targeted agents), topical treatments, and radiation referrals.
Monitors patients post‑treatment for recurrence, manage long‑term effects or complications (e.g. radiation dermatitis, lymphedema, scarring), and conduct regular skin exams or imaging as per protocols.
Collaborates with surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, and dermatopathology. Coordinate referrals, pre‑operative and post‑operative care, treatment sequencing, and multidisciplinary tumor boards.
Educates patients and families about diagnoses, treatments (risks/benefits), preventive skin care, sun protection, early detection, possible side‑effects, and what to expect during and after therapy.
Maintains accurate and timely medical records; participate in quality improvement, safety initiatives, compliance with institutional and regulatory standards; contribute to clinical research or trials when applicable (e.g. enrolling patients, monitoring outcomes).
May perform other duties as assigned.
