AbbVie’s mission is to discover and deliver innovative medicines that solve serious health issues. The Statistical Innovation team provides strategic quantitative consulting and modeling to solve complex clinical development problems.
Job Description The Director, Statistical Innovation is responsible for providing scientific and statistical leadership on advanced methodology, predictive modeling, and machine learning projects that enable clinical development decisions across the organization.
Role Responsibilities
Lead and drive modeling and simulation capabilities within the statistical innovation group.
Leverage state‑of‑the‑art techniques to propose, evaluate, and optimize clinical trial designs for time, cost, and probability of success.
Collaborate with study teams to evaluate population feasibility, impact on IC/EC, patient diversity, and other operational insights at the design stage.
Collaborate with clinical pharmacology on QSP and MIDD activities.
Build and maintain external reputation through presentations, invited talks, and peer‑reviewed publications.
Qualifications Ph.D.
in statistics, biostatistics, or related field with at least
10 years
of related work experience.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong leadership and collaboration skills across functions.
Passionate about modeling, simulation, and innovative methodology.
Strong publication record highly desired.
Advanced statistical modeling and simulation expertise.
Proficiency in R, R‑shiny, Python, Julia, and related tool development.

Additional Information The role is hybrid with a hybrid work schedule from North Chicago, IL, Florham Park, NJ, or Irvine, CA offices.
