About the Opportunity
This is a direct-hire opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer specializing in Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls (EI&C) within facilities and pipeline infrastructure. This role is part of a growing, collaborative team that supports critical energy and utility infrastructure projects, including natural gas pipelines, pump stations, terminals, and process facilities.
You'll lead complex EI&C design work, mentor junior engineers, and support full project life cycles — from concept through commissioning — in a multidisciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Engineering
Develop and review detailed electrical design packages including one-line diagrams, area classification plans, grounding layouts, conduit/cable routing.
Specify and evaluate electrical equipment: switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, transformers, UPS, panels, etc.
Perform and review electrical system studies (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, coordination) using ETAP or SKM.
Execute electrical calculations: cable sizing, voltage drop, conduit fill, fault current.
Review vendor submittals, bills of materials (BOMs), and support equipment procurement.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior staff.
Instrumentation & Controls (I&C)
Lead the development of I&C packages.
Guide control strategy development, including control philosophies and cause & effect matrices.
Specify and integrate control systems: PLCs, RTUs, SCADA, instrumentation.
Oversee selection and architecture of industrial communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, Ethernet/IP).
Support integration and commissioning planning, including FAT/SAT documentation.
Familiarity with tools like AutoCAD Electrical or SPI (Intools) is preferred.
Support development of conceptual designs, proposals, and execution strategies.
Conduct field walks and gather site data for design constraints and constructability.
Participate in HAZOP, LOPA, and other risk or safety reviews.
Perform internal QA/QC reviews and support drawing redline resolution.
Collaborate with clients, vendors, and project managers during design and procurement.
Mentor junior engineers and help enhance internal standards, tools, and best practices.
Provide construction-phase support (RFIs, redlines, as-builts, commissioning assistance).
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
7+ years of experience in electrical design, preferably in facilities, pipelines, or utilities.
Strong understanding of NEC, ANSI, and IEEE standards.
Proficiency with ETAP, SKM, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience leading EI&C design on EPC or multi-discipline projects.
Preferred
EIT required; PE license strongly preferred.
Experience with midstream natural gas, utility infrastructure, or industrial facilities.
Familiarity with hazardous area classifications (e.g., Class I Div I/II) is a plus.
Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to lead technical teams and deliver high-quality work in fast-paced environments.
