Supervises a small to medium sized operational unit of non-exempt employees. Oversees heavy equipment operations and employees within the Water Utility Department. Supervises repairs, maintenance, and functionality of equipment. Essential Functions
Supervises routine and emergency repairs, contacts vendors, delivers fuel, ensures equipment availability within cost-effective guidelines. Assigns and evaluates workers and use of heavy equipment and materials to complete tasks; directs work through crew or team leaders; provides coaching and technical direction. Implements plans and schedules, communicates with management about special projects, ensures equipment and supplies are available and ordered. Recommends or adjusts work priorities, project schedules, resources; processes invoices and paperwork to ensure smooth workflow. Inspects, evaluates, and reviews system checks to ensure proper function; performs pressure checks, thermal checks, fluid level checks, evaluates work performance, recommends awards. Gives advice, counsel, instruction, identifies training needs; trains mechanics and other operators. Estimates personnel needs and assigns work to meet completion dates; interviews and recommend selection for filling positions. Hears and resolves minor complaints; recommends disciplinary actions; prepares payroll and approves payroll related requests. Finds, recommends, implements methods to improve production or effectiveness; ensures disposal activities in accordance with state and federal guidelines. Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned. Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of heavy equipment operation, maintenance, and management. Thorough knowledge of safety rules and precautions. Knowledge of human relations and supervision. Knowledge of industrial skills, bio solids disposal, and other water management skills. Ability to plan, assign, train, direct, and evaluate trade, clerical, technical, or professional employees. Ability to read schematic diagrams and blueprints. Ability to use and instruct in hand tools, power tools, precision testing and troubleshooting equipment. Ability to handle emergency situations and provide direction. Ability to understand technical terminology of specialization. Communicating effectively verbally and in writing. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED. Five (5) years of experience in the maintenance of heavy equipment (e.g., scrapers, loaders, tractors, mowers, compactors, dozers), including engine troubleshooting, repair/maintenance of engine-driven pumps and minor repair of electrical components. One (1) year of experience in a supervisory/lead work capacity. Licenses and Certifications
Valid driver’s license and good driving record. Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be required. Other Requirements
May be subject to inclement weather conditions. Salary Range
$28.27 - $33.93 per hour. Starting salary range; amount offered will depend on qualifications. Benefits
