The mission of Discovery & Translational Sciences (D&TS) is to catalyze innovation for the discovery and translation of transformative Global Health solutions. D&TS supports the foundation in achieving equity goals through program strategies in Global Health and Women’s Health Innovations in Gender Equality. We invest in high-risk initiatives with potential for disruptive change, create practical tools, develop transformative tools where none exist, and accelerate translation of scientific discovery into implementable solutions. We seek better ways to evaluate and refine interventions before late-stage trials. Key functions include identifying knowledge gaps, creating or implementing new technology platforms, investing in transformative ideas, surveying the innovation space, and fostering a global health innovation ecosystem. Our intervention areas include vaccines, biologics, drugs, microbiome, and reproductive and sexual health. The Vaccines and Biologics (VxBx) team has a large and growing portfolio of investments in innovative approaches and platforms aimed at preventing infectious diseases that contribute to inequity. The team collaborates with program strategy partners and other functional teams, and works with external partners including academia, biotech, pharma, government agencies, and funders. Your Role

Senior Program Officer, Clinical Immunology in Vaccines & Biologics (VxBx) contributes to a productive and collaborative culture of innovation to accelerate translation of research into practical health solutions. You are passionate about solving problems and addressing questions relevant to our mission. You will interact with the international biomedical scientific and clinical research community, maintain a cutting-edge understanding of the field, provide deep subject matter expertise, act as a thought partner internally and externally, and serve as a timely sensor of novel opportunities aligned with strategic priorities. You will work with partners across diverse subject areas and bridge expertise with agility and diplomacy in a dynamic environment. What You’ll Do

Assist the Vaccines and Biologics Deputy Directors in developing strategies to address gaps in the Global Health vaccine and biologics portfolio and help shape and drive initiatives in key strategy areas. Develop, manage, and review a substantial portfolio of investments (grants, contracts, equity) including milestone-based objectives and go/no-go decisions for projects and product candidates. Identify and select partner institutions and develop the scope and strategy for grants, investments, MoUs, and contracts. Cultivate external partnerships across a diverse international network and build new networks as a foundation representative to advance programmatic strategies. Engage with foundation colleagues to drive strategic initiatives and contribute to knowledge capture, progress evaluation, learning, and dissemination. Provide Subject Matter Expertise Serve as a thought partner and subject matter expert to foundation colleagues and as a resource to grantees and partners to accomplish strategic objectives. Represent the Foundation externally and be recognized as a thought leader through participation in public events and meetings related to the area of expertise and responsibilities. Contribute to diligence teams and evaluate investments in biotech, not-for-profit, and academic partners. Monitor and analyze technology trends and innovations relevant to initiatives/portfolios. Assist in the preparation and presentation of reviews and information to Foundation leadership. Your Experience

The SPO will have deep expertise in human immunology and infectious diseases and experience using clinical studies to answer fundamental questions to improve the efficacy and durability of vaccines and biologics. Scientists and/or physician scientists with an established track record of success in academic, industry, or similar positions. Typically 10+ years of experience and a PhD or MD (academics should have held their own grants and had experience as independent principal investigators). Significant technical depth in human immunology and vaccine or biologics development against infectious diseases, including target epitope discovery, monoclonal antibodies, immunogen design, adjuvants and formulations, pathogen biology, and nucleic acid–based delivery platforms. Experience designing and applying clinical studies and assays to address fundamental human biology questions. Experience assessing new technologies and modalities and matching novel technologies with unmet medical needs. Experience collaborating in a dynamic, matrixed environment with flexibility, efficiency, and diplomacy. Experience working on teams with diverse professional backgrounds and networking with diverse global partners. The salary range for this role is $261,700 to $405,700 USD. We recognize wage differences in Seattle and Washington D.C., where our offices are located. The range in these locations is $285,300 to $442,100 USD. New hires typically fall within the range minimum to midpoint, depending on skills, experience, and expertise as evaluated during the interview process. #LI-CM1 Hiring Requirements
