Position: Major Gifts Director
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Status: Full-time, exempt
Summary At Evergreen Habitat for Humanity, we believe in a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner. Habitat houses are sold to families at no profit, financed with affordable loans, building strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.
Responsibilities
Develop and manage a portfolio of 150–200+ major gift prospects and donors.
Create customized cultivation and solicitation plans for each donor in the portfolio.
Conduct regular in-person meetings, calls, and written communications to build relationships and increase giving.
Solicit major gifts ($5,000+) from individuals, families, and family foundations.
Collaborate with leadership and program staff to identify funding needs and impact stories.
Maintain accurate records of donor interactions and gift history using donor management software.
Create compelling donor materials including proposals, case statements, reports, and updates in collaboration with Development and Marketing staff members.
Support donor stewardship efforts including thank-you calls, personalized notes, impact reports, and recognition.
Partner with Development and Marketing staff on campaign strategy, messaging, and donor engagement.
Plan and support cultivation events and donor appreciation activities.
Provide major gift reports and portfolio metrics to necessary staff.
Stay current on major giving trends, donor psychology, and best practices in nonprofit fundraising.
Represent Habitat at events, build external relationships, and engage in community outreach as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications, or related field (or equivalent experience) preferred.
Minimum 3 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with demonstrated success in major gift solicitation.
Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills; high emotional intelligence.
Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities, including donor-facing communication, one on one meetings, presentations, etc.
Experience managing a donor portfolio using donor database systems (e.g., Blackbaud, Salesforce, Bloomerang, etc.).
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Self-motivated and goal-driven, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet fundraising targets and deadlines.
Knowledge of donor stewardship practices, planned giving, and capital campaigns a plus.
Commitment to the mission of Habitat for Humanity and understanding of affordable housing issues is a plus.
General Work Schedule
40 hours/week; may include early mornings, evenings and weekends for donor meetings and events
Flexible work schedule including hybrid work from home opportunities
Current hours: 9am–5pm Monday–Friday
Work Environment and Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position for long periods while operating a computer to create documents, conducting research, sending and receiving e-mail and participating in meetings; communicating on a telephone and in person; reading and writing; applying logic and focusing attention in the presence of distractions. Occasional requirements are to move about the office to access file cabinets, office equipment, etc. Must be able to lift 25-50 lbs. Evening and weekend work may be required.
