Position Purpose
The Customs Brokerage Manager oversees the full spectrum of U.S. import brokerage operations for enterprise-level accounts. The position ensures compliance with customs laws, manages a high-performing brokerage team, and drives process efficiency across multiple clients and trade lanes. This leader acts as the bridge between clients, internal teams, and government agencies to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely entry execution.
Core Responsibilities
1. Operational Leadership
Manage daily customs brokerage activities, ensuring all entries are filed accurately and within regulatory timelines.
Lead and mentor a team of licensed brokers, entry writers, and analysts to maintain operational excellence.
Monitor workload distribution and service levels across clients to align with contractual obligations.
Investigate process delays or KPI variances and implement corrective actions.
Maintain structured team meetings to align objectives, monitor performance, and support professional development.
2. Compliance & Governance
Ensure full adherence to U.S. Customs regulations, trade agreements, and import/export restrictions.
Oversee HTS classification, valuation, and admissibility processes.
Conduct internal audits to verify entry accuracy and recordkeeping standards.
Update SOPs in line with evolving CBP requirements and internal quality protocols.
Communicate regulatory changes to clients and internal stakeholders promptly and accurately.
3. Client Relationship Management
Act as primary contact for enterprise customers on customs and trade compliance matters.
Develop tailored brokerage solutions and service models based on client operating structures.
Lead new client onboarding, system setup, and procedural training for internal teams.
Prepare client performance reports, present findings, and recommend improvement initiatives.
Manage escalations with professionalism and speed, ensuring consistent service recovery.
4. Process Improvement & Strategy
Evaluate workflows to identify automation or efficiency opportunities.
Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) and develop improvement strategies.
Partner with senior leadership to enhance technology integration and operational visibility.
Drive consistency and accuracy across all trade documentation and communication channels.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Active U.S. Customs Brokerage License or commitment to obtain within one year.
Minimum 5 years of experience in U.S. import brokerage or customs compliance management.
Demonstrated team leadership and people development experience.
Advanced knowledge of HTS classification, entry types, and CBP audit procedures.
Strong analytical, organizational, and written communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and customs filing systems (ACE, ABI, etc.).
