Overview
As a Premium Consultant III, you will independently conduct virtual and occasional on‑site premium audits to validate policyholder classifications, operations, and payroll records. Your audits directly impact risk assessments, fraud detection, and underwriting decisions while helping policyholders understand their coverage and record‑keeping practices. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct virtual and physical audits of policyholder business records to determine proper risk classification, premium basis, and scope of operations. Analyze financial documentation and prepare detailed audit worksheets using specialized software. Research and apply correct classifications using NCCI Scopes & Basic Manual and internal resources. Identify and document changes or unusual exposures that may impact premium; refer findings to Underwriting. Review claims reports and verify proper coding for accurate NCCI reporting. Alert MEM’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) to potential fraud indicators. Educate policyholders on insurance fundamentals, payroll reporting, and recordkeeping best practices. Provide consultative support to help policyholders establish systems for accurate wage division and documentation. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams and external customers through timely, professional communication. Audit Management & Operational Excellence
Independently manage audit scheduling, pre‑audit preparation, and follow‑up documentation. Utilize internal systems to review past audits, policy notes, corporate filings, and claims reports. Ensure audit progress is tracked and communicated effectively. Professional Development & Collaboration
Stay current on procedural changes, state‑specific determinations, and NCCI updates. Engage in ongoing learning through MEM’s FLEX classes, cross‑departmental collaboration, and corporate training programs. Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience). Experience: 3+ years of progressively responsible experience in premium auditing, workers’ compensation, or a closely related insurance field. Certifications: APA 91 and 92 recommended; APA designation a plus. Licenses: Valid driver’s license required. Knowledge: Familiarity with NCCI Scopes & Basic Manual classifications and workers’ compensation guidelines. Company Culture and Values
