Vice President – Maritime Federal East Leader and Carolinas Ports Leader, Ports & Maritime Engineering
professional to join our
National Maritime
team at any of the following locations:
Raleigh, NC; Charleston, SC; Wilmington, NC; Charlotte, NC .
Key Responsibilities
Provide proactive and strategic leadership for the maritime subsector offering direction, expertise, and support to achieve project and business line expansion goals.
Understand the maritime permitting process and perform engineering review of permit applications, engineering design plans and specifications, standby plans, engineering contracts, integrated management plans, and periodic construction inspections to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and sound engineering practice.
Lead larger-scale multidisciplinary greenfield port development and port redevelopment/reconfiguration projects, establishing clear expectations, preparing and overseeing project budgets, monitoring external events, tracking hours and expenses, and supervising subcontractors, contract work, and employees.
Provide expert technical assistance on various engineering, design, and construction issues relating to marine, port, and coastal systems.
Responsible for capturing planning, pursuit, and development of business and successful execution of federal maritime/port work across the U.S. East coast and port/private clients including terminal operators in the Carolinas.
Lead technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentations, and meetings.
Support overall long-term strategy, growth, and pipeline development of Marine Engineering work for WSP in assigned area of responsibility, focusing on port infrastructure opportunities in all disciplines (planning, design, strategic consulting and program/construction management).
Manage and provide performance guidance and leadership to assigned staff, ensuring profitable project performance and client satisfaction.
Remain current in latest marine, port, and coastal engineering techniques and practices, and be acquainted with capital investment programs of leading regional public ports.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or closely related discipline.
12+ years of post‑education experience delivering marine, port, coastal, and infrastructure projects, including PS&E packages, cost estimates, and construction oversight.
Engineer license required (NC PE mandatory; SC/CA preferred).
U.S. Navy and other DoD related experience managing and executing projects.
Advanced proficiency with marine, port, and coastal engineering principles, practices, and project delivery modes.
Strong knowledge of marine, port, and coastal construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
Advanced proficiency in technical computations, including seismic designs for ports.
Ability to work independently and provide leadership to mid‑level to senior level team members, maintaining strict QA/QC standards.
Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the capacity to interact persuasively with all organizational levels.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and prioritization of responsibilities in a pressure work environment.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
Strong ability to adapt quickly to change and demonstrate flexibility to meet business needs.
Travel required to meet with clients, develop opportunities, and address project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
Experience managing review and approval of documents and discipline‑specific deliverables, certifications, processes, and plans in a multi‑project environment.
Understanding and experience with impacts of coastal flooding/exposure to existing port infrastructure.
