Seeking a hands‑on, detail‑driven Corporate Controller with a CPA and proven public company experience to own multi‑entity consolidations, SEC/GAAP reporting, and day‑to‑day accounting operations for a high‑growth public company. This role will manage a finance team of 7–8 direct reports and is hybrid based in North County San Diego, CA.
About the Role
Lead and execute consolidated financial close, technical accounting, and internal controls while remaining deeply involved in transaction‑level detail. You will partner with the CFO, external auditors, and cross‑functional leaders to ensure timely, accurate financial statements and scalable accounting processes.
Key Responsibilities
Consolidations and Reporting:
Own monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated close for multiple legal entities and jurisdictions; prepare supporting analyses for SEC filings and external audit.
Technical Accounting:
Lead GAAP accounting, complex account reconciliations, consolidation adjustments, ASC 740/ASC 420/ASC 606 application, and new accounting standards implementation.
Controls and Compliance:
Design, document, and maintain SOX‑ready internal control framework; drive continuous improvement in accounting policies and processes.
Team Leadership:
Directly manage and develop 7–8 accounting professionals; hire, mentor, and set performance expectations; foster a culture of accuracy and ownership.
Operational Partnering:
Work closely with FP&A, tax, treasury, legal, and business units to support transactions, month‑end close efficiency, and accounting for M&A or restructurings.
Systems and Process:
Own ERP accounting setup and optimizations, lead system implementations or upgrades, and standardize reporting across entities.
Audit and External Relationships:
Manage external audit and regulatory relationships, prepare audit schedules, and respond to auditor inquiries.
Required Qualifications
CPA license required
(Inactive Status is Acceptable)
5+ years
in a senior accounting role with public company experience and direct responsibility for multi‑entity consolidations.
Deep, hands‑on expertise in consolidations, GAAP technical accounting, and SEC reporting.
Proven experience building and operating SOX‑compliant controls.
Track record of leading and scaling accounting teams (7–8 direct reports preferred).
Strong ERP experience (NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, or comparable) and advanced Excel skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication; able to present complex accounting topics to executives and auditors.
Authorized to work in the U.S. and available for regular hybrid in‑office cadence in North County San Diego.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with public company SEC filings and XBRL tagging.
Prior involvement in M&A accounting or complex business restructurings.
