The Role
Build and scale a world‑class accounting organization that evolves with company growth over the next 12‑24 months, preparing WorkBoard for late‑stage maturity.
Own and improve the monthly close process: shorten it, strengthen it, and ensure audit readiness — target is a close cycle under 6 business days.
Ensure full GAAP compliance (including ASC 606, ASC 842, ASC 718) and establish well‑documented, scalable accounting policies and procedures.
Lead systems and process modernization (ERP upgrades, equity management, billing systems, and AI‑driven tools) to improve efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
Improve or build internal controls, aligned with current needs and future SOX‑light or full SOX readiness.
Support audits, fundraising or diligence processes, and financial due diligence as needed.
Own administration of all variable compensation plans and equity accounting, including bonus plans and commissions: stock options, RSUs, warrants, and cap table reconciliations in partnership with Legal and HR.
Support international expansion with consolidation, currency management, and cross‑border accounting processes where relevant.
Be directly in the succession plan for CFO, stepping up in leadership, vision, and ownership.
What Success Looks Like (First 12‑18 Months)
The monthly close process is consistent, reliable, and accomplished in under six business days.
WorkBoard is fully audit‑ready, with clean financials, documented policies, and strong internal controls.
The accounting team is leveraging updated systems (ERP, billing, equity) with automated workflows where possible.
Financial reporting is transparent and trusted by leadership, investors, auditors, and cross‑functional partners.
GAAP compliance issues are proactively managed; technical standards (e.g. revenue recognition, leases, stock comp) are clearly applied and consistently understood.
International accounting challenges (currency, entity & financial consolidations, statutory compliance) are addressed or planned for.
The equity ledger / cap table reconciliations are accurate and scalable.
Who You Are
Experienced as a Controller, or an “up & comer” currently in a #2 accounting role but capable of stepping up and owning the Controller job.
Strong audit background and CPA certification. Big 4 or top‑tier public accounting firm experience a plus.
Deep knowledge of GAAP standards, especially revenue recognition (ASC 606), lease accounting (ASC 842), and stock‑based compensation (ASC 718).
Proven experience scaling accounting functions in a SaaS environment; experience growing toward ~$50 M ARR is highly valuable.
Strong hands‑on orientation (“builder’s mindset”) — you like rolling up your sleeves and creating structure in ambiguous, fast‑moving settings.
Excellent systems experience implementing or scaling ERPs (NetSuite, Sage Intacct, etc.), automating workflows, deploying tools for equity, billing, etc.
Strong cross‑functional collaboration skills; ability to explain financial/apnd accounting details clearly to non‑finance stakeholders.
High attention to detail and obsession with accuracy, internal control, timeliness, and transparency.
Adaptability; able to handle fast change, shifting priorities, scaling challenges.
Integrity and ethics in all work; trustworthy with confidentiality, risk, compliance.
