Principal/Senior Principal Scientist – Translational Medicine (OMNI – Multiple Sclerosis) at Genentech.
Position Overview Genentech’s Translational Medicine department (TM‑OMNI) drives translational research across multiple therapeutic areas, including ophthalmology, metabolism, neuroscience, immunology and infectious diseases. The department supports biomarker discovery, personalized healthcare strategies and clinical translational research to identify novel targets and therapeutic approaches in disease biology.
Responsibilities
Lead target identification and validation for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) therapeutic development, leveraging deep expertise in disease biology and target validation.
Generate and analyze omics data using genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, single-cell RNA‑seq, immune repertoire, CITE‑seq and spatial transcriptomics to uncover disease heterogeneity and therapeutic mechanisms.
Develop and use human‑derived in vitro and in vivo models to support target validation and preclinical development of new therapies.
Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams and external partners to design experiments, interpret data and refine hypotheses.
Present scientific findings to internal cross‑functional teams, committees, external meetings and conferences, and contribute to protocols, reports, filings and publications.

Qualifications
PhD, MD or postdoctoral / fellowship experience in neuroimmunology or related field with minimum 2 years (Principal Scientist) or 5 years (Senior Principal Scientist) of MS experience.
Strong background in translational research, target identification and validation.
Demonstrated ability to work within a cross‑functional team such as research or clinical trial project teams.
Proven ability to lead independently, develop hypotheses, and guide lab scientists with experience in computational analysis of omics data. Knowledge of R and/or Python preferred.
Strong writing and communication skills evidenced by publications, grants, and/or drug development reports.
Benefits Relocation benefits are available for this posting. Salary range for California locations: Principal Scientist $141,500–$262,900; Senior Principal Scientist $176,600–$328,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job‑related factors permitted by law.
