Senior Writer, Executive Communications Location:

Job Summary The Senior Writer, Executive Communications serves as the lead writer for the Office of the President. Responsible for crafting high-impact speeches, remarks, summaries and talking points that authentically reflect the President's voice, priorities and thought leadership. Delivers compelling content that informs, inspires and influences through various platforms and channels. Other duties as assigned.

Job Duties

60% - Presidential Speechwriting and Social Media:

Write speeches, remarks and event scripts for the university president across a wide range of engagements - including internal and external events, donor meetings, conferences and community appearances. Accurately capture and reflect the president's voice, tone and strategic priorities across all written materials. Proactively generate ideas for the president's social media platforms, positioning the president as a thought leader in higher education.

15% - Collaboration:

Work closely with university communications, advancement, academic affairs, student affairs, athletics and others across the University to ensure message alignment and strategic consistency.

10% - Executive Communications:

Support the development of talking points, op-eds, statements and correspondence for other senior leaders, as needed. Creates, edits and designs PowerPoint presentations for the president and other leaders, as needed.

10% - Content Development:

Translate institutional initiatives and academic work into compelling narratives that resonate with various audiences, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, boards, legislative leaders, business and industry, and the general public.

5% - Issues Management:

Collaborate with the news and communications teams to prepare responsive, timely messaging and talking points on emerging topics and sensitive matters.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Public Policy, or related field.

Work Experience:

7+ years.

Preferred Requirements

Education:

Master’s Degree.

Responsibilities Firm job knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures and ability to use in varied situations.

Physical Requirements Sit (stationary position) for prolonged period. Communicate, converse, give direction, express oneself.
