Development Editor

– National Geographic Learning (NGL) Global ELL Team

You will support the development of components and levels within a series, working closely with the Lead Content Developer, Academic Design Manager, and Director, Academic Design.

This role infuses all publishing with the National Geographic brand to help NGL reach bold revenue and growth targets.

Responsibilities

Edit and review content (print and digital) to ensure students achieve course learning objectives, under direction from Lead Content Developer and/or Academic Design Manager.

Partner with Operations to identify, hire, and manage freelance authors, editors, and other collaborators.

Support Learning Designers and Development Editors in developing content planning documents, budgets, guidelines, and prototypes.

Accurately estimate, plan, and communicate with team members and managers on work and project progress to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.

Coordinate and collaborate with internal and external teams, including Production, Creative Studio, Operations, Digital, Marketing, freelancers, writers, and vendors, training and assisting as the program requires.

Continually improve understanding, skills, and display aptitude for new tasks; proactively identify and suggest areas for change or improvement related to projects’ workflows and processes.

Qualifications

BA/BS/CELTA degree.

3-5 years educational publishing or equivalent teaching experience.

Advanced editing, proofing, and strong written and verbal communication skills.

Project and time‑management skills, including pre-planning and the ability to meet deadlines.

Understanding of language learning pedagogy to make content decisions.

Understanding of how to implement NGL brand and content design principles.

Ability to understand and follow a learning design plan.

Ability to work independently on multiple projects.

Compensation Full base pay range: $46,400.00 - $60,300.00 USD.

Individual base pay will vary based on schedule, qualifications, experience, internal equity, and geographic location.

Sales roles often include a significant incentive compensation program beyond the base pay range.
