General Description The Clinical Instructor reports to the Clinical Course Coordinator or Laboratory Course Coordinator and ultimately to the Associate Director for Clinical Practice, MSN (Entry into Nursing) Program. The position term is one semester and may be renewed based on program needs and satisfactory evaluations.
Responsibilities
Participate in all mandatory training, meetings, and site-specific orientations before the semester.
Teach in clinical/laboratory/simulation settings using evidence-based practice and adult learning principles.
Create an inclusive learning environment proactively.
Ensure completion of assigned clinical hours and maintain familiarity with theory content.
Provide standardized learning experiences where applicable.
Follow direction of the Clinical Coordinator and Program Director.
Attend course planning meetings as directed.
Ensure all students meet compliance requirements for the clinical site by the due date.
Prepare and submit incident reports related to student exposures per site and SON policies.
Take students to the Occupational Health Clinic after exposures per instructions.
Collaborate with nurse managers, staff nurses, and other unit representatives.
Meet with students to address performance concerns.
Work closely with the student’s clinical course coordinator when performance risks arise.
Provide recommended plans for academic improvement and follow up on progress.
Give timely feedback on clinical/laboratory/course progress.
Communicate in writing with the clinical coordinator regarding course warnings.
Initiate notifications of missed clinical time or warnings when appropriate.
Communicate with students and coordinators if midterm or end-of-course grades are not passing.
Report non-academic student issues to the Associate Dean for Student Affairs.
Review patient logs and verify time logs in EXXAT.
Be able to travel to Johns Hopkins SON and clinical facilities in the Baltimore‑Washington area.
Qualifications
Current licensure as a registered nurse.
Master's degree in nursing or DNP.
Completion of SON and/or site compliance requirements.
Minimum of 2 years of direct patient care as an RN or advanced practice nurse.
Excellent organizational, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to manage details and problem‑solve in a complex environment.
Commitment to fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment.
Preferred experience as a clinical educator.
Salary Range The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position as of posting date. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, internal equity, market conditions, and education or training.
