Role Summary Under the direction of the appropriate licensed clinician, the Patient Care Tech III (PCT III) provides patient care to meet the personal needs and comfort of patients and assists members of the healthcare team.

Major Responsibilities

Communicates clearly and timely with the RN regarding observations and changes seen in patients.

Maintains constant observation of high‑risk patients as assigned.

Participates in the development and maintenance of a safe environment and implements interventions to de‑escalate patients.

Assists patients with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, ambulation, meals and nourishment.

Assists in moving, lifting, positioning and transporting patients using proper safety techniques.

Performs patient safety checks, utilizes fall prevention devices and follows restraint policy standards when caring for a restrained patient.

Takes and records vital signs and measures and records patient height and weight.

Performs EKGs, point‑of‑care tests, bladder scans, collects, labels, and prepares specimens for transport to lab.

Performs phlebotomy in certain locations.

Demonstrates sensitivity and responsiveness to patients’ needs and builds positive rapport.

Performs unit‑specific procedures such as telemetry battery changes, equipment checks, cleaning between patients, and proper storage of supplies.

Assists RN/licensed independent practitioner with treatments and procedures, preparing patient and equipment, using sterile technique when indicated, and providing emotional support.

Manages oral food and fluid intake records, tube feeding solutions, ostomy care, and documentation of outputs.

Supports housekeeping duties such as answering telephone, relaying messages, using intercom and pagers, and replenishing supplies.

Performs other similar duties as required or directed.

Position Qualifications License/Certification/Education

Minimum of a high school education or GED.

Current Basic Life Support certification.

Experience/Skills

Demonstrated competency attainment in the PCT II level.

Prior inpatient/outpatient care experience or clinical care training.

Ability to read, write and communicate in English clearly and concisely.

Medical terminology knowledge.

Computer skills.

Strong interpersonal skills to gather information and build relationships and provide exceptional patient service.

Proven problem‑solving abilities for routine situations and ability to seek guidance when needed.

Calmness under stress or emergency situations.

Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions Position requires work indoors in a patient care environment, lifting up to 50 pounds, standing and walking most of the time with heavy equipment handling and bending frequently.
