Product Validation Test Engineer
The Product Validation Team at TrellisWare invites submissions for an onsite Product Validation Test Engineer.
The role focuses on validating advanced radio systems in laboratory and field environments, collaborating with software and hardware developers, and driving performance improvements across multiple product and technology programs.
Responsibilities
Test, evaluate, and analyze integrated SW/HW wireless communication systems at the product level.
Summarize field test data and produce detailed test reporting for team leaders.
Design, document, and execute test cases in support of systems engineering of proprietary technologies and standards.
Conduct field interoperability and performance validation in both mobile and stationary environments.
Perform top‑level log analysis, debugging, and troubleshooting of field functional and performance issues.
Benchmark performance against competitor/reference devices and assess compliance.
Coach and share knowledge with Field Test team members.
Contribute to process improvement and field test planning.
Set up, configure, and automate test environments.
Maintain Product Test Lab inventory and manage testing equipment.
Coordinate engineering support and triage field issues reported by Field Application Engineers and the Sales team.
Travel up to 25% (primarily domestic, San Diego area).
Qualifications
B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication, Digital Signal Processing, or equivalent military experience.
3+ years of relevant test experience.
2+ years of wireless communications experience.
Skills
Fundamental knowledge of RF technology, radio design, and RF test equipment.
Experience with RF propagation calculation and field testing of wireless radio transceivers.
Knowledge of networking (OSI layer 3 and 4), including UDP, TCP/IP, and transport protocols.
Proficiency with spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, radio emulators, network analyzers, RF switch matrices, and multimeters.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving ability.
Experience designing, planning, preparing, and executing test cases.
Effective use of Windows, Linux GUI, and command‑line tools for software installation and diagnostics.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Passion for learning, curiosity about how systems fail, and initiative to fix issues.
Additional Requirements
U.S. Citizenship or permanent residency.
Security clearance may be required; only U.S. citizens are eligible for clearance.
Physical Demands
Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and use of hands and fingers.
Regular use of office equipment (PC, printer, telephone).
Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; frequently lift up to 25 pounds; occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
Vision requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Compensation The annual salary range for this position in the San Diego, CA area is $85,000 – $120,000, based on qualifications and experience.
