Reports to the Jacobs Medical Center (JMC) Pre-Op/Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (Perianesthesia) Nurse Manager and provides direct supervision typically to professionals or skilled technical employees across all areas of Peri Operative Services including PreOp, PACU, RRU and OR. Functions as advisor to unit and administration. Analyzes and resolves problems, interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts and grants, resource management in defined areas) and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives.

This position assists with monitoring daily operations and overall function of the JMC Pre-Op and PACU Department. Oversees staff while maintaining budget and all Assistant Nurse Manager functions according to the job description. This position will work closely with leadership and team members from JMC Operating Room and the Sulpizio Cardiovascular Institute (CVI). Jacobs Medical Center has 24 ORs, which includes the Sulpizio CVI’s 4 ORs that report separately.

The Assistant Nurse Manager is involved in ensuring optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership and/or provision of patient care delivery in assigned nursing unit(s) or area(s). Promotes environment for a shared voice in nursing practice and exchange of ideas to continually improve nursing and patient care outcomes. Accountable for the quality, safety, patient experience and cost-effectiveness of patient care. Consults and collaborates with other health care professionals to coordinate the management of patient care.

Serves as a resource to staff, physicians, students and others. Supervises staff involved in providing clinical patient care. Assists in ensuring the quality of patient care delivery in a specific patient care area and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice. Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources. May assume full responsibility for the unit in delegated areas and in the absence of the manager. The Assistant Nurse Manager is expected to perform clinical RN duties to assist with staffing levels when needed.

Lead and supervise nursing staff to provide high quality, patient-centered care in Pre-Op and PACU environments. Manage staffing, budgets, and resources to meet department goals. Serve as a clinical and administrative liaison among surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and support staff. Analyze and resolve issues related to patient safety, quality improvement, and operational performance. Mentor and guide staff in evidence-based practice and professional development. Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and institutional policies. Provide clinical care as needed during shift coverage. Seniority Level & Job Information

Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Nursing required. Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of California. BLS/CPR and ACLS certification at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date. Two (2+) or more years of recent OR, PACU, ICU, or ER RN experience in an acute care hospital. Demonstrated hospital management skills, with progressive expertise in patient care services. Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills. Proven knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes. Proven knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities, and to quickly assess moderately-complex problems to develop potential solutions. Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Nursing or relevant area. Relevant specialty certification (e.g. CAPA, CPAN, CCRN). Three (3+) or more years or relevant nursing experience, including at least two (2) years of recent OR, PACU, ICU or ER RN experience in an acute care hospital. One (1) year or more of recent supervisory or management experience. Charge nurse experience accepted. Experience with Epic EMR. Special Conditions

This position is non-exempt and eligible for shift differentials. Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs. Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical. Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $132,600 - $259,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $63.51 - $124.43 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
