Job Overview As a Principal Analytics Engineer, you will serve as a technical and strategic leader driving Warner Bros. Discovery’s enterprise-wide data and analytics strategy. You’ll design and govern the semantic data layer, build robust and scalable data products, and enable self-service analytics across domains such as commerce, product, and content.
Responsibilities
Define and champion WBD’s enterprise data & analytics strategy; create technical roadmaps that balance innovation, scalability, and business needs.
Architect and govern data models, semantic layers, and analytic data products to ensure consistency, accuracy, and accessibility across business domains.
Partner with executive stakeholders to translate strategic goals into actionable data initiatives, frameworks, and governance policies.
Provide technical leadership on large-scale, cross-functional data initiatives; ensure alignment between platform architecture and analytics use cases.
Drive the adoption of best practices in data modeling, metadata management, observability, and data quality.
Serve as a thought leader, influencing industry practices and representing WBD in external forums, conferences, or publications.
Mentor and coach senior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration.
Oversee operational excellence, including system reliability, platform performance, and cloud cost management.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; MS/PhD in Computer/Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field strongly preferred.
12+ years of progressive experience in analytics engineering, data architecture, or advanced analytics leadership.
Proven track record designing and governing semantic data layers and data product ecosystems at enterprise scale.
Deep expertise in SQL and proficiency in general-purpose programming (Python, Scala, or similar).
Strong background with big-data technologies (e.g., Spark, Delta Lake, Kafka, Snowflake, Databricks, or equivalent).
Demonstrated success engaging with C-level executives; ability to communicate complex technical concepts in clear, strategic language.
Prior experience in Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) based businesses strongly preferred.
Advanced experience with BI/visualization tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau, Power BI) and self-service data enablement.
Skilled at transforming complex, messy, or incomplete datasets into reliable, consistent models and data products.
Familiarity with applied data science and machine learning; ability to guide responsible adoption of AI in production environments.
Experience leading large, cross-functional initiatives and influencing without direct authority.
Benefits & Compensation Base pay is $175,700.00 - $326,300.00 per year. Additional benefits include health insurance, employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and sick time, and vacation. Pay Range: $175,700.00 - $326,300.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards.
