Production Launch Engineer Job Summary:

The Production Launch Engineer will be responsible for onsite support of the build team launching a low‑production (niche) vehicle.

This role will also include the design and release activities to resolve launch issues as they arise.

General launch support activities include reviewing existing build process documentation, developing new build process documentation, providing line‑side engineering support to identify emerging issues and define corrective actions, and general launch issue tracking and status reporting.

Responsibilities

Review existing build process documentation to ensure alignment with actual practices.

Develop new build process documentation as needed.

Provide line‑side engineering support to identify emerging issues and define corrective actions (both interim containment and permanent corrective resolution).

Track launch issues and provide status reporting.

Specific Design and Release Tasks

Reverse engineer OEM front‑end accessory drive (FEAD) bracket, developing cast and machined 3‑D models and relevant 2‑D drawings.

Design and release a replacement heat sleeve solution for electrical ignition hardware.

Collaborate with commodity buyers to develop sourcing agreements and ensure purchase orders are in place.

Establish quality requirements for newly designed parts and work with supplier quality team to ensure incoming compliance.

Work with the supply base to ensure delivery plans are in place.

Assume ownership of additional powertrain components as launch issues arise.

Define and document “transparency” validation for any newly designed or resourced parts.

Key Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.

High mechanical aptitude with working knowledge of generic product development tasks from inception to production.

Basic understanding of all powertrain subsystems (IC engines, air induction & filtration, exhaust & aftertreatment, fuel systems, powertrain thermal systems).

Willingness to adapt and work on multiple powertrain sub‑systems during launch.

Ability to read and interpret technical prints and assembly instructions.

Working knowledge of GD&T.

Familiarity with dFMEA and DVP&R documents.

Valid driver’s license and willingness to use personal vehicle for occasional transport of small parts between facilities.

Prior production launch experience.

Previous D&R experience.

Experience with casting development, including geometry design, material selection, tooling, and process familiarity.

FEAD knowledge—prefer previous experience/familiarity with FEAD layouts.

Heat shielding and heat management experience.
