Application Engineer – Metrology Track
Overview The Application Engineer (AE) – Metrology Track is the primary technical resource for the field sales force and is responsible for actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process. The AE provides in-house and onsite services such as installations, diagnostics, repairs, certifications, calibrations, and testing of dimensional metrology equipment including vision and video measurement systems, optical comparators, and CMMs, among other measurement technologies and instruments.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Articulate the technology and product solutions offered by the company to both business and technical users.
Support the sales process by understanding customer requirements and developing potential solutions.
Design measurement fixtures for use with CMMs, multisensor measurement equipment, and other systems.
Create measurement part programs for CMMs, vision systems, multisensor and CT equipment for the inspection of customer products.
Perform dimensional tests of customer parts following customer specifications, company procedures, and industry best practices.
Assist customers with troubleshooting programming and machine issues; document and escalat as needed to ensure timely resolution.
Develop proficiency in reading part drawings and specifications, including basic proficiency in GD&T.
Use 3D scanning equipment to digitize parts for customers.
Reverse engineer customer products using specialized and CAD software.
Provide metrology and programming training for customers.
Support the calibration unit in performing equipment and gage calibrations, repairs, and maintenance of measurement equipment.
Maintain accurate records of target accounts, opportunities, quotes, projects, and correspondence in company databases.
Assist the marketing team with product and solutions content.
Exercise diplomacy in resolving conflicting customer performance expectations.
Interpret, provide opinions, and sign calibration and dimensional testing reports.
Use statistics to analyze measurement standards and processes.
Prepare formal reports for all projects.
Perform other duties as assigned by the company.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or related field)
OR
4+ years of technical experience in CAD design, metrology, or equipment programming.
Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Sales aptitude, including the ability to interact with and persuade people internally and externally.
Proficient in CMM programming software (preferably Zeiss Calypso).
Competent in using CAD software for part and fixture development (SolidWorks preferred).
Proficient in dimensional metrology principles and practices.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Knowledge of Gage R&R and MSA.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to identify alternative solutions quickly.
Clear and effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Other Requirements
Full-time position.
Willing to travel throughout Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, and abroad.
Must possess a valid passport or equivalent travel documentation.
