Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Certification in one of the following: RHIT, RHIA, CCS, COC-A, COC, Formerly CPC-H, CPC, or CIC.
Experience
One year of hospital coding experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate of Health Information Technology (HIT) or equivalent program OR Medical Coding Certification Program.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Review and accurately interpret medical record documentation to identify all diagnosis and procedures for the current outpatient encounter and assign appropriate ICD-10, CPT, or modifier codes.
Assign codes to a variety of patient classes (e.g., ED, OBS, SDC).
Ensure timely coding, charging, and abstraction of accounts for assigned specialty areas.
Maintain and enhance current coding knowledge through quality review, attendance at in‑services, and study of coding references.
Guarantee accuracy, quality, and timeliness of data to obtain a clean bill.
Contact physicians or other personnel as needed to obtain accurate coding information and collaborate with other offices to facilitate billing.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to sit for extended periods.
Must have visual and hearing acuity within normal ranges.
Must possess manual dexterity to operate computer and office equipment.
Working Environment
Standard office environment.
May experience visual strain from computer screens and written material.
Travel may be required.
