Summary The Senior Managing Accident Reconstructionist leads a team of experts in reconstructing vehicular accidents and requires extensive experience in forensic engineering and accident reconstruction investigations. The role involves traveling to accident sites, assessing conditions, utilizing specialized software to reconstruct accidents, working with forensic animators to develop 3D models and graphics for trial exhibits, accurately analyzing crash patterns, and providing written conclusions to determine contributing factors. The ideal candidate has an established clientele network and experience building, establishing, and maintaining rapport with that network.

Role & Responsibilities

Lead a team of experts in conducting accident investigations, traveling to scenes, documenting incidents, downloading vehicle data, performing analysis with crash simulation software, writing reports, and providing litigation support.

Manage large, complex projects from start to finish.

Support business development by building and maintaining client rapport and generating new work.

Communicate scope, tasks, budget, timelines, and deliverables to clients and team.

Ensure even workload distribution among experts.

Mentor and guide team in all project aspects.

Provide expert testimony in depositions or trials when requested.

Conduct vehicular investigations: crash scene documentation, 3‑D laser scanning, photography, drones, CDR/EDR download, measuring devices.

Analyze vehicle crush patterns and conduct research on specifications, crash test data, and maintenance history.

Process 3‑D laser scan point cloud data using engineering workstations.

Work with forensic animators to develop scaled 3‑D drawings of crash scenes and vehicles.

Use PC Crash or similar software to perform automobile collision simulations.

Apply engineering principles to calculate impact, departure speeds, collision forces, trajectories, and analyze results with crash test reports.

Create detailed client reports, including findings and conclusions, to assist in determining contributory factors.

Act as team lead, reviewing staff work to ensure project deliverables are accurate and timely.

Research papers and journals to advance scientific reconstruction techniques.

Qualifications

10–15 years of forensic accident reconstruction experience; actar certified or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with 10–15 years of experience.

Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering preferred.

Valid PE license, ACTAR certified, SAE certified required.

Expert in CAD (Computer Aided Design) preferred.

Minimum 8 years calculating impact and departure speeds, collision forces, trajectories.

Minimum 7 years automotive engineering and automotive control systems experience.

Minimum 8 years working with insurance carriers, attorneys, and/or adjusters.

Minimum 5 years performing computer simulations.

Experience handling depositions as a field expert and providing courtroom testimony preferred.

Must be located in the city/state of job post or intend to relocate to said city/state.

Enjoys team environment and passion for learning.

Willingness to travel to remote site locations as needed.
