Library Director -- St. Tammany Parish Library -- Slidell, LA The St. Tammany Parish Library System is seeking a visionary and dynamic

Library Director

to lead a vibrant multi-branch system serving a diverse community of over 280,000 residents. Reporting to the Library Board of Control, the Library Director provides strategic leadership, financial stewardship, and operational oversight to ensure the library continues to meet the educational, cultural, and informational needs of the community.

Responsibilities

Provide overall leadership and administration of the parish-wide library system, including long-term planning, policy development, and implementation.

Oversee daily operations, services, and programming across multiple branches.

Manage and mentor a large professional and support staff, fostering an inclusive, customer-focused, and high-performance work culture.

Develop and administer an annual operating budget in compliance with state and parish requirements.

Collaborate with the Library Board, parish officials, community partners, and regional/state library organizations.

Ensure strong stewardship of public funds, facilities planning, and technology infrastructure.

Champion equity of access, intellectual freedom, and lifelong learning opportunities for all residents.

Qualifications Candidates must meet one of the following educational and experience requirements:

Option A:

Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA- accredited program with

at least 5 years of progressively responsible library management experience , including supervision of a large staff and oversight of multiple facilities.

Option B:

Master of Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent graduate degree with

demonstrated senior-level management experience

overseeing operations, budgets, and personnel in a complex, multi-site organization of comparable size.

Additionally, candidates should possess:

Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

A proven record of fiscal management, strategic planning, and community engagement.

Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and foster innovation in library services.

Salary and Benefits This is a full-time position with a competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications, along with a comprehensive benefits package. Salary range is $105,000 to $140,000.
