SUMMARY

This position will be responsible for overseeing and managing the Food Systems Department, including the department’s tribal-focused community food program, protection and enhancement of the Tribe’s local food economy, and advancement of the Tribe’s food sovereignty initiatives. RESPONSIBLITIES

The following duties and responsibilities are not meant to be all inclusive and may be adjusted to meet business needs. Strategic Planning and Management

Update the Tribe’s Food Sovereignty Framework in accordance with the strategic plan and in response to program evaluation and community needs. Oversee the facilities and operations of the community garden, greenhouse, cultural garden, and designated harvest areas. Work with the Director to develop and manage the department’s annual budget, including existing and proposed grant opportunities. Supervise department staff, establish work plans, provide training on policies and procedures, ensure adherence to policies and procedures, and conduct performance reviews. Protect, enhance, and develop the Tribe’s local food economy by evaluating community needs and developing acreage, infrastructure, and policies to ensure the availability of healthy local food for the next 7 generations. Cultivated Food Production and Distribution

Oversee the Tribal produce distribution program, including the Woyute Was’te Koka (Good Food Box) delivery service. Manage vendor relationships and ensure community input opportunities. Maintain systems for food safety and post-harvest handling of food produced on the Tribe’s land. Ensure adherence to all Tribal food ordinances and safety policies. Maintain records of harvests, production, and operating costs to ensure sustainable harvest rates and to plan for diversification in response to climate impacts like drought and disease. Set up systems for staff, community members, and volunteer groups to maintain the grounds, participate in community harvests, and support post-harvest processing. Wild Foods Education and Harvest

Work across departments to offer programs and outreach events related to harvesting native edible and medicinal species on Tribal land. Improve foraging availability of native edible and medicinal species on Tribal natural lands. Oversee and facilitate the Tribe’s Maple Camp production MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

7+ years of management experience in one or more of the following areas: organic farming, nursery / greenhouse management, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), Tribally Supported Agriculture (TSA), or other relevant agricultural businesses. Strong data collection and organization skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong computer skills Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) The ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision Successful experience working in a team setting Sensitive to Native American Culture Pass drug screen (UA) and a criminal background check Valid driver’s license and proof of insurability PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

GIS/GPS software experience Background in greenhouse and aquaponics operations Background in Indigenous food systems with knowledge of culturally significant foods, plants, and medicines Experience in agroforestry development and facilitation PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds Must have ability to utilize garden equipment and tools Must be able to walk, stand or sit for long periods throughout the day Must be able to push, pull and grasp objects routinely Must be able to bend and crouch frequently Ability to work in extreme temperatures and weather conditions REQUIRED TRAINING

Effectively Handling Harassment training Any position-related training as determined by the Director WORKING ENVIRONMENT
