HDR is looking for a Senior GIS Analyst to join our team developing and implementing geospatial solutions for transportation clients and projects. Duties include working in a professional environment with a team of engineers, environmental scientists, and transportation planners. The ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds, both technical and non‑technical, is required. Ideal candidates will have a solid understanding of GIS, expertise with Esri software. We are interested in someone who is passionate, self‑motivated, and has a strong desire to research, learn, and grow as a GIS professional; someone who can appropriately apply technology to solve problems and provide services to our clients. Successful candidates will possess cartographic proficiency and be able to develop database schemas and analysis methods needed to support project goals and efficiently use web resources to research and solve problems. Our projects include geospatial solutions for desktop, web and mobile.

Senior GIS Analyst Responsibilities

Independently organize, conceptualize, and conduct large, advanced spatial analyses as a project manager or GIS technical team leader using ArcGIS software from Esri.

Work with non‑GIS project managers and clients to design and effectively employ GIS on transportation planning projects.

Provide GIS technical leadership to area GIS team and GIS power users.

Serve as a GIS lead for project marketing, budget development, and resources scheduling.

Prepare scope language and fee estimates in proposal development.

Prepare quality assurance plans for GIS task and oversee their implementation.

Supervise the GIS work of other professionals and ensure the successful completion of GIS projects or GIS tasks.

Develop vector and raster spatial analysis models using Spatial ModelBuilder, Python, or other GIS scripting languages.

Develop geodatabase schemas and analysis methods needed to support project goals.

Develop and support web GIS applications using Esri Experience Builder, Dashboards, Story Maps, Hub, Field Maps, and Survey 123 within ArcGIS Online platform.

Create maps, applications, databases, and other deliverables on short notice.

Communicate and collaborate with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds, both technical and non‑technical.

Perform other duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

GISP, AICP, PE or other professional certification a plus.

6+ years practical GIS experience; an advanced degree in relevant field may offset 3 years of experience.

Extensive experience with Esri Desktop ArcGIS software, scripting and extensions (ModelBuilder, Python, Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst, Linear Referencing, etc.).

Experience with ArcGIS Pro.

Extensive experience in map generation and data visualization.

Extensive experience applying geospatial concepts, methodologies, and solutions on transportation projects.

Extensive experience with ArcGIS Online platform and associated products such as Web App Builder, Story Maps, Collector and Survey 123.

Expertise with developing geodatabases and schemas (domains, subtypes), Access/SQL and other databases.

Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail and effective time management.

Ability to multi‑task, stay organized and responsive to meet ambitious client deadlines.

Experience using Adobe Illustrator or related graphic software for enhancing quality of GIS maps.

Experience with FME is a plus.

Familiarity with ArcGIS Enterprise and Portal for ArcGIS Server preferred.

Experience in scripting, database management, and software development is a plus.

Preference given to local candidates.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Planning, Engineering, Natural Sciences, or closely related field.

A minimum of 8 years of practical GIS experience; an advanced degree in relevant field may offset 4 years of experience.

Proficient in use of ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS extensions e.g., 3D Analyst, Spatial Analyst etc.

Proficient in the use of Microsoft 365 Apps.

Experience with ETL tools (FME) and other advanced analyst tools e.g., Arcade, ArcGIS Notebooks.

Experience with Esri Solutions and Products.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to write reports that summarize spatial analyses and communicate findings with charts, tables, and narrative.

Ability to serve as a GIS project leader including development of technical approach, scheduling, and quality assurance.

Continuous technical currency.
