Save Job

Are you passionate about shaping the future of humanity's presence in space? Lunar Outpost, a trailblazer in space robotics, invites you to join our team! Lunar Outpost is dedicated to creating a sustainable presence in space, while also driving positive impacts here on Earth. We are seeking a talented, experienced Network Security Engineer to define the future of secure space swarms in a fast‑paced startup environment. As a Senior Network Security Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing resilient, lightweight, and decentralized security solutions for edge environments. This role is ideal for someone with a strong understanding of network protocol security, distributed systems, and the unique constraints of non‑traditional network environments such as space systems, remote IoT clusters, or tactical edge nodes. Your expertise will be critical to ensuring the security of ground‑breaking missions and technologies that have the potential to benefit humanity on Earth.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement secure networking protocols for resource‑constrained edge devices, including peer discovery, authentication, encryption, and secure routing

Design trust models that are delay‑tolerant, with limited access to centralized authorities

Develop mitigation strategies against physical compromise, firmware tampering, and local denial‑of‑service attacks

Integrate anomaly detection, intrusion prevention, or lightweight IDS/IPS solutions tailored to edge constraints

Evaluate and optimize performance of novel network topologies in hardware‑in‑loop simulations, field‑tests, and physical deployments (e.g., orbital, aerial, ground)

Collaborate with systems, mechanical, electrical, and thermal engineering teams to integrate and optimize autonomy software on space and ground assets

Stay abreast of advancements in cybersecurity, networking, and space exploration technologies, leveraging new findings to enhance our systems

Develop and maintain technical documentation, including ICDs and verification plans

Participate in design reviews, trade studies, and technical risk assessments

Ensure software systems adhere to industry standards for security, reliability, and performance in space exploration contexts

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field

A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in network security, with a focus on robotics and space systems.

Mesh network security (e.g., 802.11s security)

Latency/Delay tolerant network security (e.g., BPSec)

Decentralized security architectures

Expertise in programming languages and software used in space systems (e.g., C++, Python, bash), along with a solid understanding of Linux

Expertise in network security fundamentals and cryptographic protocols (e.g., TLS, IPSec, MACSec, ECC, AES-CCM)

Comfortable working in research-oriented, agile, and interdisciplinary teams

Track record of innovation in networking, robotics, or space systems, as demonstrated by patents, publications, or significant project achievements

Exceptional ability to communicate complex technical concepts and collaborate across various engineering disciplines

Preferred Qualifications

M.S. or Ph.D. in Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

Relevant Certifications: CISSP, CompTIA Security+/CySA+, GSEC, GICSSP

3+ years of experience with the end‑to‑end development and deployment of security software systems in space‑based, aerospace, tactical, fog, or remote IoT networks.

Familiarity with containers (e.g., Docker) and virtualization software (e.g., VirtualBox)

Familiarity with zero trust and decentralized identity models (e.g., DIDs, PKI alternatives, keyless signatures).

Familiarity with trusted platform modules and remote attestation.

Proficiency with Linux networking tools (e.g., Wireshark, nftables, tcpdump).

Experience deploying software on embedded or fieldable hardware (e.g., Jetson, Raspberry Pi, microcontrollers, FPGA).
