Our client, a leading global manufacturer with a strong presence in the Greater Grand Rapids area, is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join their operations team on a 1-year contract to hire basis. This role is designed to support critical production functions and continuous improvement initiatives, with the potential for contract-to-hire based on performance and business needs.

You'll be stepping into a collaborative, high-performing engineering environment that prioritizes operational excellence, lean manufacturing, and ongoing product innovation.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Provide hands-on troubleshooting and technical support across manufacturing lines to minimize downtime and drive root-cause solutions.
  • Lead or support the introduction of new products and processes into manufacturing.
  • Identify and implement improvements in production processes, equipment, and workflows to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize labor/material costs.
  • Participate in or lead special projects involving process redesign, equipment upgrades, or implementation of corporate initiatives.
  • Analyze ergonomic risks and implement corrective actions to improve safety and employee well-being.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate new technologies and drive strategic improvements across the production lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose and resolve manufacturing process issues quickly and effectively.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using lean manufacturing tools.
  • Plan and execute equipment installation and process upgrades.
  • Provide technical documentation and support for process changes.
  • Track improvement metrics and project expenditures.
  • Contribute to strategic process planning and long-term improvements.
Job Requirements

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field; OR equivalent experience in manufacturing process support.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel and data analysis tools.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
Preferred Experience:
  • 5+ years of hands-on manufacturing experience (degree not required if this level of experience is met).
  • Experience with lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and ergonomic assessment.
  • Familiarity with equipment selection, installation, and commissioning.
  • Understanding of process modeling, simulation, and value stream mapping.
  • Background in human factors engineering or occupational biomechanics is a plus.
  • Project management experience in a manufacturing setting.
