Software Engineering @ Clay
As an Engineer, you’ll play a key role in driving impact across the engineering organization. You’ll leverage your technical expertise to shape strategic direction, execute ambitious and complex projects, and elevate the overall effectiveness of the team. Your impact will go beyond individual contributions — you’ll shape architecture, mentor engineers, and drive process improvements to enhance efficiency, scalability, and the overall effectiveness of the engineering organization. There’ll be no shortage of fun problems to explore and technical challenges to solve.
What You’ll Do
Big picture thinking. You’ll set technical strategy for the domains that you cover and look beyond the immediate details and current roadmap.
Executing. You’ll tackle ambiguous or technically complex projects, overcoming obstacles with influence and collaboration to scale impact.
Leveling up the team. You’ll mentor engineers, review designs and code, and model ownership, technical design, and participation in the company culture.
What You’ll Bring
You have 7 years of overall software development experience. You’ve worked at startups and scale-ups, and are comfortable building for growing scale.
You have infrastructure experience. You’re comfortable provisioning cloud resources, from microservices to queues, caches, and DB clusters, and you follow best practices in system design.
You have observability tooling experience. You’ve used logging, profilers, and distributed tracing to troubleshoot production issues.
You have strong product intuition. You can think broadly about how technical decisions affect the end-user experience and what new functionality could be unlocked.
You are an empathetic communicator. You express nuanced ideas clearly for different audiences and prioritize curiosity over confrontation in disagreements.
You’re familiar with our current tech stack or can learn quickly. Our current tech stack includes:
Typescript, React, Node.js, Python
AWS: Aurora (Postgres), Elasticache (Redis), Docker ECR, ECS (Fargate), Lambda, OpenSearch
IaC: Terraform
Deployment tools: Github, CircleCI, Netlify, Playwright
Observability tools: Cloudwatch, Datadog, Mezmo, Grafana
Compensation Range: $160K – $270K
