Key Responsibilities
Provide leadership and oversight for growth and management of local 4‑H programs, volunteers, and youth participants.
Recruit, select, and train volunteers, ensuring MSU Extension volunteer selection process is followed.
Promote program visibility and strengthen public understanding of 4‑H and MSU Extension programs.
Build partnerships, expanding programs into schools and community groups.
Conduct needs assessments to drive strategies for program topics and delivery methods.
Lead local 4‑H groups in managing funds, and conduct financial management training to councils, committees, clubs.
Expand Extension programs to reach underserved families, minorities, and the disabled.
Plan, organize, and implement youth development programs relevant to Wexford County residents.
Communicate program updates to supervisors, district director, and institute leadership.
Collaborate with local 4‑H staff to prepare and submit county 4‑H youth development program plan, annual reports, and other reports.
Represent MSU Extension in activities, meetings, events, reflecting collegial connection with the community.
Work from the Wexford County MSU Extension office; flexible work environment may be available.
Characteristic Duties / Responsibilities
Train 4‑H volunteers to reach and involve the youth, adults, and families in the communities we serve.
Build new partnerships with schools and community groups focusing on reaching youth.
Attend and act in an advisory capacity at 4‑H Leaders’ Council and other committee meetings.
Provide leadership to local volunteer management; ensure metrics are achieved for recruiting, selecting, training volunteers.
Work collaboratively with 4‑H staff and educators to identify, implement, and disseminate educational priorities.
Operate independently, ensuring program delivery meets goals for youth reach.
Use program development and advisory committees to conduct needs assessments and plan, organize, implement, evaluate youth programs.
Provide leadership, management and oversight of all county-based financial resources related to 4‑H programs.
Support the Children and Youth Institute's efforts in culture, access, belonging, and civil rights.
Other duties or projects as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in program development and management in 4‑H or other youth development program.
Volunteer management experience supervising volunteers.
Combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered.
Demonstrated success in program development and delivery to representative audiences/communities.
Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, knowledge, and use appropriate approaches reflecting cultural awareness.
Experience working productively with a team in leadership and contributor roles.
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Proficiency in technology (Zoom, Qualtrics, MS Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
Travel in local and surrounding communities; occasional long-distance travel required.
Ability to lift and carry educational materials, equipment, etc. up to 25 lbs.
Transportation responsibilities are the employee’s responsibility.
Desired Qualifications
Non-formal education teaching experience.
Demonstrated drive and initiative, managing multiple responsibilities.
Ability to develop and maintain partnerships across audiences reflecting varied backgrounds.
Prior experience performing work in support of external contract and/or grant requirements.

Description of End Date 12 months. This is an off‑dated position funded for one year from the date of hire with possible extension contingent upon funding renewal.
