The Mumu HR Generalist provides support across all HR functions, with a primary focus on benefits administration, wellness, workplace safety, workers comp, and compliance. This position helps ensure the smooth flow of information, documents, data, and responses across the organization and within the department. They also support the organization by handling a variety of HR administrative tasks and partnering on cross‑functional initiatives involving finance, human resources, and organizational compliance. The individual in this role must be within commuting distance of the Mumu Warehouse (Commerce, CA) & Mumu HQ (Downtown Los Angeles). This role will work 4 days per week, in person; and the remaining days remotely.
Core Duties
Design, implement, and lead day‑to‑day operations for benefit programs, including health & welfare plans, 401(k) COBRA, and other employee services
Serve as liaison with third‑party benefit administrators to provide prompt assistance to employees and/or dependents in resolving benefit issues, account corrections or emergency response needs
Handle employee inquiries and provide guidance on benefit plans, enrollment, and qualifying life events
Collaborate with Payroll to ensure proper deduction and funding of all employee and employer retirement plan contributions
Partner with finance, payroll, HRIS, legal, and vendors to perform all aspects of benefit program management, ensuring accuracy of benefit deductions and streamlining processes to maintain proper data flow
Manage premium billing statements and resolve discrepancies
Support tax and ERISA compliance audits, ACA reporting and related filings
Develop and deliver employee communications and educational materials related to benefits (including Open Enrollment)
Maintain benefit records and HRIS, ensuring data accuracy and compliance with applicable laws and internal policies
Onboarding / Employee Relations / Compliance
Conduct new hire & benefits orientation sessions, prepare onboarding materials, and process pre‑employment paperwork
Support employee benefit setup during onboarding & take lead on execution of Annual Open Enrollment
Serve as a key point of contact for employee inquiries related to payroll, PTO, wage statements & general HR policies – in English & Spanish
Collaborate with HR and Ops to support employee relations and promote a positive, compliant workplace culture
Assist with external/internal audits (e.g., EDD, DLSE, I‑9), documentation preparation, and compliance record‑keeping
Support year‑end processes including W‑2s, ACA filings, and reconciliation of employee data
Keep abreast of policies, legislative changes, and legal requirements (ERISA, HIPAA, ACA) to assist with plan compliance efforts
Assist with special projects and ad‑hoc reporting related to compliance and workforce planning
Perform other benefits and HR support duties as needed
Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of progressive benefits administration experience for 100+ employees
Knowledge of Worker's Compensation / FMLA / LOA processes and procedures
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
HR Certification (e.g., SHRM‑CP, PHR) is a plus
Must be able to speak and write fluently in Spanish, required
The candidate must be a team player, willing and able to work cross‑functionally with multiple departments
Dynamic problem solving and project management skills
Education / Experience
Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field
Working knowledge of federal/state compliance regulations and wage laws
In‑depth knowledge of California employment laws and regulations
Must be highly organized and able to prioritize, works with a sense of urgency
Must have experience with ADP Workforce Now
Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Google Suite
Compensation $30.00 To $34.00/Hour (DOE) Depending on Experience
