Role Overview
RN Nurse Manager – Inpatient Psych Unit (Child and Adolescent) at Children’s National Hospital.
Responsibilities Unit Description: The inpatient Child Psychiatric Unit is a 12‑bed unit and the Adolescent Psychiatric Unit is a 14‑bed unit. Each patient receives an initial psychiatric evaluation upon admission. The treatment team includes psychiatrists, therapists, and registered nurses. Nurse managers oversee nursing services 24/7, plan operations, supervise staff, manage budget, ensure regulatory readiness, and foster a collaborative environment.
Qualifications
Minimum work experience: 5 years (Required)
Strong knowledge of JCAHO and other regulatory agency requirements.
Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
Expertise in the area of specialty.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Registered Nurse in District of Columbia (Required).
BLS (Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider) (Required).
Functional Accountabilities
Grow – Encourage and share new ways of making the right work easier to do, recognize incremental improvements in operations, promote success of organizational initiatives by aligning programs to the mission.
Exemplary Practice – Establish collaborative relationships, utilize cultural competency, treat every patient with dignity, engage opportunities to act in the best interest of the patient, consistently evaluate care delivery model.
Transformational Leadership – Contribute to the development of departmental strategic plans, use budget tools for forecasting, accountable for staffing and coverage, communicate and escalated issues to senior leadership, employ varied performance measures.
Structural Empowerment – Responsible for implementation of Shared Nursing Leadership, promote staff/unit involvement in the community, coordinate mechanisms across systems to provide continuity of care.
New Knowledge – Ensure practice of nursing is based on scientific evidence, encourage staff participation in research, encourage professional certification and further education.
Organizational Accountabilities – Deliver team goals, develop budget, provide resources, develop procedures for safety and quality, identify customers’ needs; Engage link between department and team, provide feedback, manage workplace; Grow promote new ways of doing work.
