Senior Counsel, Commercial Verticals
Mastercard seeks an experienced lawyer to support the Commercial Verticals team in business development and sales activities. The role is based in Purchase, Atlanta or London. Overview
The Commercial and New Payment Flows ("CNPF") organization is driving payments smarter and businesses stronger with commercial cards, working capital, and money movement solutions. The Commercial Verticals team scales CNPF products and services within specialized industry segments, including Travel, Transportation, Healthcare and Embedded Finance platforms. Responsibilities
Partner with product, sales, franchise, marketing, and other teams to develop and launch innovative products and solutions that differentiate Mastercard and meet customers’ rapidly changing needs. Structure and negotiate a wide range of contracts (complex technology agreements, customer and vendor agreements) to drive issuer, merchant acceptance and adoption of CNPF products and services. Collaborate with in-house and external specialists (regulatory, compliance, data protection, and intellectual property counsel) to identify relevant issues and help the business effectively navigate legal risks. Provide support to the Commercial Verticals business development teams to support product sales initiatives. Advise business on a wide range of commercial and contractual matters, including legal and business risk assessment and analysis on diverse matters from new product constructs to commercial agreements. Take responsibility for high profile projects while handling a steady stream of day‑to‑day matters. Ensure compliance with Mastercard’s policies and procedures and provide applicable training to the business. Manage external counsel within agreed policy and budget. Qualifications
Qualified lawyer with at least seven years’ experience in the relevant fields of practice, licensed in the relevant jurisdiction. Extensive legal experience, preferably including in‑house work experience. Familiarity with laws and regulations in the commercial banking and payments space is favored. Strong business acumen, keen interest in technology, and strong drafting and negotiating skills across complex commercial contracts. Experience working on global agreements across multiple jurisdictions and time zones. Team player, self‑starter, and able to work independently under pressure and tight deadlines. Employment Details
