About The Role Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs is open to sponsoring legal fellows with their own funding for fellowships beginning in Fall 2026. The committee seeks a fellow to develop and conduct impact litigation and related advocacy, with a primary focus on immigrant justice, education, and criminal legal system work.

Responsibilities

Handle all aspects of litigation including investigation, case development, discovery, motions practice, and trial as part of a team.

Receive supervision and collaboration from WLC litigators with experience in individual representation, policy advocacy, and impact and class action litigation.

Engage impacted communities in the litigation process.

Qualifications

J.D. degree; bar admission in DC, MD, and/or VA or eligibility to waive.

Demonstrated commitment to public interest law, civil rights, and/or constitutional law.

Superior analytic and research skills.

Clear, persuasive writing and speaking abilities.

Ability to conduct complex legal analysis and fact investigation.

Self‑motivated, diligent, able to meet deadlines.

Independent work and collaboration in a dynamic environment.

Compensation Fellows seeking sponsorship should come with own funds. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with permanent staff attorneys, including generous leave and employer‑funded benefits. WLC’s pay scale is available with this posting.

67,750 - 67,750 USD per year (Year 0)

70,750 - 70,750 USD per year (Year 1)

76,750 - 76,750 USD per year (Year 3)
