RK&K is currently hiring an Engineer I – Water Resources to join our growing Water Resources team in Washington DC. This is an excellent opportunity for you to take the next step in your career. On our Water Resources team, you will support multiple Department of Transportation and Municipal projects, working alongside a multidisciplinary team of experienced professionals throughout the company. Types of Water Resources Projects
Riverine system hydraulics & hydrology Floodplain analysis, mapping, and flood mitigation Watershed planning and studies Closed storm system analysis and open channel designs Stormwater management facility design Erosion and sediment control Green infrastructure design Responsibilities/Functions
Perform drainage design for roadways, including culverts, storm sewers, and outfalls using local standards Develop drainage area maps, perform hydrologic calculations, and design stormwater conveyance systems Design Erosion and Sediment Control Measures and Erosion & Sediment Control Best Management Practices (BMPs) Produce construction drawings and specifications for permitting and bidding Create environmental permit drawings and support regulatory compliance submissions Utilize MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer (ORD) for stormwater and drainage plan production Develop civil engineering plans using current CADD software while applying knowledge of local, state, and federal design standards. Provide services for and deliver a wide range of water resource projects including stormwater systems, drainage design, flood studies, watershed plans, outfall stabilization, scour analysis and erosion/sediment control. Conduct technical evaluations to support planning and design related to water resource systems. Assist with the preparation and review of technical memoranda, reports, drawings, specifications, and miscellaneous contract documents. Support field investigations/evaluations when required. Support construction projects with office engineering services (submittal review, contract document interpretation, requests for information, correspondence, change requests, and change orders) when required. Communicate and work effectively with other design team members including project manager, project engineers, design technicians, drafters, surveyors, contractors, and inspectors. Prepare permit applications/reports for oversight agencies to address the full range of environmental issues and conditions associated with water resources projects. Proactively deliver a wide range of water resource projects in accordance with the scope, schedule, and budget set by the Project Manager. Provide excellent client services with a focus on quality and timeliness. Provide office and site visit support for assigned and prospective projects. Assist with the development of necessary documentation and preliminary modeling, analysis, and due diligence in support of project pursuits. Proactively grow in experience to lead tasks. Required Skills And Experience
S. in Civil / Environmental Engineering or similar field Strong foundation in hydrology, hydraulics, and stormwater design Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, Teams) Coursework in Fluid Mechanics, Water Resources Engineering, and/or Urban Hydraulics and Hydrology Zero (0) - Four (4) years of experience in water resources engineering Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills required Strong attention to detail Ability to work both collaboratively/in a team environment and independently EIT or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire Ability to learn and apply MicroStation and other design software Candidates will work in a diverse and challenging environment and must: Be capable of working on and coordinating simultaneous tasks, Be capable and willing to provide in-house staff augmentation services to local public-sector clients at their facilities on a part-time and full-time basis.
