Job Overview The Vice President (VP), Leadership Development is a strategic system leader responsible for building and sustaining a world‑class pipeline of leaders who can deliver on the company's long‑term growth ambitions. This role oversees the design, execution, and evaluation of enterprise‑wide leadership development strategies and programs, ensuring alignment with system goals, culture, and values. The role will serve as a trusted advisor to senior executives, shaping leadership capabilities that drive transformation, innovation, and performance across a multi‑billion‑dollar health system.
Reports To
The Vice President, Learning Solutions reports directly to the Senior Vice President, Talent Management, RWJBarnabas Health.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Business, Organizational Development, Psychology, Human Resources, related field preferred or equivalent career experience
Executive coaching certification or equivalent leadership development credentials desirable
10+ years of progressive leadership experience in leadership development, talent management, or organizational effectiveness, with at least 5 years at a senior enterprise level in a complex, multi‑billion‑dollar organization
Proven track record of designing and implementing executive leadership programs with measurable business outcomes
Deep expertise in leadership assessment, succession planning, and executive coaching
Demonstrated ability to influence senior executives on talent and succession matters
Experience managing teams and budgets
Consistently model RWJBH Leadership Competences
Strategic, enterprise‑wide thinker with ability to connect leadership development to business performance and business impact
High emotional intelligence, cultural agility, and ability to inspire trust and credibility at all levels
Innovative mindset with ability to anticipate future leadership capabilities needed in a rapidly changing world
Essential Functions
Strategic Leadership & Vision
With the SVP Talent Management, define and lead the enterprise leadership development strategy, ensuring alignment with system strategy and future talent needs
Ensure leadership development strategy is inclusive of general management as well as clinical leaders and other key talent groups
Serve as a strategic partner for senior leaders, influencing executive decision‑making on leadership capability building and succession planning
Translate system priorities into leadership capability frameworks, ensuring readiness for growth, transformation, and disruption
Program Development & Delivery
Design and oversee best‑in‑class executive and senior leadership development programs, including high‑potential acceleration, succession readiness, and enterprise leadership experiences
Leverage cutting‑edge learning methodologies – experiential, digital, coaching, simulations – to create impactful and scalable solutions
Embed measurable outcomes and ROI metrics into all leadership programs to demonstrate system impact
Recommend and drive the assessment strategy for RWJBH to identify talent and support leadership development programs
Support enterprise change initiatives by equipping leaders with skills to drive transformation, agility, and resilience
Build organizational commitment to continuous leadership development at all levels
Talent Pipeline & Succession
Manage the process to identify and strengthen succession pipelines for critical enterprise roles
Drive the identification, assessment, and development of high‑potential leaders across functions
Ensure succession pipelines draw from the full talent pool across the system
Define and manage the system Talent Review process
External Partnerships & Thought Leadership
Maintain strong relationships with Rutgers as well as appropriate leading business schools, education partners, external leadership networks
Partner with Foundation and Workforce Development to identify any possible funding support for developing healthcare leaders of the future
Stay ahead of leadership and talent trends, bringing innovative approaches to the organization
Represent the company externally as a thought leader in leadership development
