Job Overview RES is seeking a purpose‑driven Coastal Ecologist to join our team as a Scientist IV. We want individuals passionate about restoration and sustainability who want to make a lasting environmental impact.

As a senior technical expert and project team leader, you will manage interdisciplinary field teams, conduct advanced scientific analysis, and ensure that data collection and reporting meet regulatory, technical, and quality standards. This role leads ecological efforts in coastal environments and supports business development initiatives.

Location & Travel Fort Lauderdale, FL office (Hybrid schedule). Approximately 20–30% of your time will be spent in the field across Florida. Some travel and overnight stays are anticipated.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and mentor early‑career scientists within a multi‑disciplinary team.

Design field sampling methodology, analyze coastal habitats, and develop mitigation plans.

Deliver technical expertise in permitting, coastal mitigation projects, and restoration initiatives.

Serve as technical lead on client proposals, scientific content, and site‑specific assessment strategies.

Guide junior team members, mentor advanced ecological methods, and supervise work quality.

Identify, pursue, and secure coastal projects in collaboration with business development and client service teams.

A Day in the Life Your day may begin with leading a morning field briefing, conducting a benthic survey, or presenting to stakeholders about an upcoming opportunity. You will serve as technical lead on coastal restoration, permitting, and mitigation projects. In the office, you might QA/QC monitoring data, advise on permitting language, or develop a mitigation plan for an upcoming project.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, marine biology, or a related field.

10+ years of scientific experience, or 8+ years with an advanced degree.

Strong project leadership skills, including field planning, workload management, and scientific coordination.

Client‑facing experience with technical proposal development and scientific presentation.

Significant experience with scientific data collection, QA/QC, analysis, and reporting.

Advanced knowledge in at least one ecological or environmental scientific discipline; broad knowledge across several.

Proficiency in GIS tools, scientific software, and data visualization.

Experience collaborating with regulatory agencies, interpreting SOPs, and applying permitting framework.

What Makes You Stand Out

Certifications such as PWS, CWB, CERP, PG, CEP, or specialized state or federal licenses.

Salary Annual base salary: $65,000–$75,000.
