On behalf of our client, the Battle Creek Community Foundation, we are seeking a Chief Financial Officer. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will be responsible for overseeing all fiscal functions of the Battle Creek Community Foundation (BCCF) and supporting organizations and the affiliates of BCCF, by providing leadership and oversight to the areas of financial management, investments and general accounting, while in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the Securities and Exchange Commission, other regulatory and advisory organizations and in accordance with financial management techniques and practices appropriate within the non-profit industry. The CFO will also supervise the Finance Department team members providing leadership and development.

Description of Duties

Serve as strategic thought partner with CEO and the organizational leadership team.

Provide team leadership in financial and investment management areas for the CEO, Finance & Investment Committee, Audit Committee and Board of Trustees.

Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by researching existing and new legislation, consulting with outside advisors, and filing financial reports.

Advises BCCF officials of actions and potential risks.

Analyze, interpret, and communicate financial operating results to provide information and guidance to BCCF officials and its Board of Trustees.

Maintain all official accounting records in conformance with generally accepted accounting principles for BCCF and supporting organizations and affiliates.

Enhance and/or develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures of BCCF by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the corporation.

Evaluate the finance division structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group and provide individuals with professional and personal growth.

Complete monthly investment allocations, cash management, and journal entries.

Maintain accurate financial records and direct the successful completion of the annual audit, including preparing schedules, etc.

Complete investment reconciliation and allocation.

Assure monthly bank reconciliations, investment reconciliations and other reports are completed such as annual charitable gift annuity/pooled income tracking and 1099 reporting.

Demonstrate knowledge of, and support, BCCF mission, vision value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.

Serve as a member of the executive leadership team.

Participate in regular staff meetings and staff development functions and events.

Professionally and at times publicly represent BCCF at community events and meetings as well as signature events of BCCF (Annual meeting, Heritage Society Event, and other events as scheduled).

Perform any other duties deemed necessary for the smooth operation of the organization.

Essential Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience; Masters and/or CPA preferred.

7-10+ years of experience working in finance with at least 3 years of experience leading teams.

Ability to learn and lead from BCCF’s regulations, policies, and procedures.

Strong acumen in fund accounting.

Ability to formulate, initiate, and administer policies and procedures for effective fiscal control.

Ability to present and communicate ideas and concepts in public and private, verbally and in writing.

Ability to make independent judgments which have highly significant impacts on the organization.

Ability to demonstrate a positive customer service attitude and good personal skills.

Experience using Microsoft Office work environment.

Experience using C-Suite/Fondant preferred, and/or other financial platforms.

Ability to work independently to meet deadlines and ability to effectively organize and maintain accuracy, sensitivity, and confidentiality.
