VP Director of Software Engineering , you will lead a high-performing engineering team to deliver complex, mission-critical systems that improve the financial well-being of hardworking Americans. This role requires a hands‑on technical leader who inspires trust, drives clarity, and models engineering excellence. Location

This role is hybrid. You should be located within a 50‑mile distance to one of our offices in Wilmington, DE, Baltimore, MD, or Irving, TX. Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Development

Build, grow, and mentor cross‑functional software engineering teams, cultivating a culture of accountability, ownership, and collaboration. Actively coach and develop engineers into future leaders while minimizing key‑person risk. Foster diversity, equity, and inclusion by empowering team members of all backgrounds to thrive. Agile Execution & Iterative Software Delivery

Lead the delivery of large‑scale software programs using Agile and Lean practices. Run high‑transparency delivery plays each sprint with clear visibility into scope, progress, and risks. Ensure working software is demonstrated at sprint boundaries to stakeholders and actual users. Drive a high degree of test automation, observability, and operational readiness. Technical Leadership

Actively contribute to engineering activities, architecture discussions, and problem‑solving across the tech stack. Support development of observable systems using robust metrics, monitoring, and alerting. Drive adoption of modern technologies including TypeScript, Node.js, Angular, GraphQL, AWS, and PostgreSQL. Program & Stakeholder Management

Collaborate with product, design, and business partners to align delivery with strategic objectives. Establish a program management framework covering scope, schedule, budget, staffing, and quality. Deliver regular stakeholder updates that highlight accomplishments, risks, and calls to action. Actively manage cross‑lane dependencies to ensure program success. Continuous Improvement & Culture

Lead by example in embracing empiricism, experimentation, and continuous learning. Facilitate retrospectives and Lean improvement initiatives to eliminate inefficiencies and maximize throughput. Elevate engineering practices across the Catalyst program and beyond, influencing peers and stakeholders to innovate together. Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. 7+ years of experience leading and managing software engineering teams in Agile environments. 5+ years of hands‑on software development experience with modern technologies. Proven ability to deliver large‑scale, complex software systems in a production environment. Strong technical expertise in web development (TypeScript, Node.js, Reach, Angular, GraphQL) and cloud platforms (AWS). Skilled in building and scaling test automation, CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring systems. Demonstrated success in leading through influence, building coalitions, and aligning diverse stakeholders. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt for technical and executive audiences. Benefits

Target base salary range is $170 K–$190 K, which is based on various factors including skills and work experience. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for a competitive compensation program that is based on individual and company performance.
