Job Summary Under direct supervision of the Department Manager, the position performs complex pediatric echocardiograms on inpatient and outpatient patients. Proficient in all clinical modalities offered in the Pediatric Echocardiography Laboratory, including data interpretation and preliminary report generation according to departmental procedures.
Responsibilities
Follow laboratory procedures and protocols; assist with quality assurance and continuing quality improvement programs.
Perform ultrasound tests on inpatients, outpatients, and research, including 2D/3D imaging, M-mode, Doppler, and stress echo tests.
Assist in development of procedures for processing echocardiograms and conduct preliminary reports.
Provide orientation and teaching to new fellows and sonographer students.
Oversee maintenance of echo machines and coordinate with biomed for repairs.
Serve as liaison with patient units to ensure timely services.
Qualifications
Current registration as a cardiac sonographer (RDCS) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in Pediatric and Adult echocardiography.
Current BLS certification.
Two years of work experience in a hospital‑based echo lab environment (Senior); four to five years (Principal).
Demonstrated ability to work independently in an acute‑care hospital‑based echo laboratory with complex congenital anomalies.
Flexibility to work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
