Summary

CYP Assistants work directly with children and youth, keeping them actively engaged, well‑cared for, and safe while participating in the CYP. Responsibilities include building social skills, promoting healthy choices, supporting school readiness, and exploring the environment. Responsibilities

Curriculum

– Develop activity plans, implement program options for children with special needs, lead planned and spontaneous activities, role model developmentally appropriate practice, promote safety, fitness, health, and nutrition, and serve appropriate snacks or meals where applicable. Indoor and Outdoor Environment

– Prepare and maintain activity areas, set up displays and bulletin boards, inventory equipment, and secure supplies, equipment, and facilities. Interactions and Relationships

– Establish a program environment that sustains participant interest and promotes positive interactions with children, youth, and adults; interact with children using approved child guidance and youth development techniques. Supervision of Children and Youth

– Provide care and supervision, maintain control of whereabouts and safety, supervise during indoor/outdoor activities and special events, ensure children depart with authorized parents, observe for illness or abuse, and report as required. Parent and Employee Communication

– Interact professionally with employees, parents, and local command personnel; provide parents with daily feedback and participate in conferences. Assessment

– Observe and document developmental progression, use information in planning, and participate in program evaluation using designated instruments. Compliance

– Assist in achieving DoD certification and national accreditation, ensure compliance with law and policies, and notify supervisor of safety concerns. Additional Responsibilities

– Collect, maintain, and report program participation data; perform other related duties as assigned. Conditions of Employment

Must be 18 years of age or older. Complete required training certificates and maintain certifications required by federal, state, or national accreditation institutions. Pass all applicable records and background checks, including pre‑employment and random drug testing. Pass pre‑employment physical and immunization requirements. Employment contingent upon proof of education if not provided at time of application. Marijuana is illegal under federal law; a positive drug test will result in withdrawal from the offer and ineligibility for 6 months. Non‑affiliated individuals requesting access after May 7 2025 must have a REAL ID‑compliant driver’s license or acceptable identification. Qualifications

Entry Level (CY‑1702‑01)

– Communicate effectively in English, follow written instructions, complete DoN training, promote working relationships, and work cooperatively as a team member. Intermediate Level (CY‑1702‑01)

– All entry level abilities plus knowledge of child and youth development principles, ability to implement developmentally appropriate practices, interpret curriculum, plan and organize, and have six months experience working with children in a child and youth setting. Target Level (CY‑1702‑02)

– All entry and intermediate knowledge and abilities plus child and youth development principles, one year experience working with children, and a credential such as CDA or a degree equivalent to a two‑year college degree in early childhood education or related field. Education

Must provide a copy of a high school diploma or GED. Prior experience working with children or youth is preferred. For higher levels, required experience is six months (intermediate) or one year (target) plus completion of required DoD training or credential. Required Documents
