NSA Bethesda (DON)
Incumbent provides appropriate specialized developmental care and instruction for children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years in one or more Child and Youth (CY) programs. The incumbent also mentors CY Program Assistants, works under the direction of a supervisor, and assists with complex, non‑routine problems.

Salary: $26.37 per hour (Retention bonus after 6 and 12 months)

Duties Mentor The incumbent mentors assigned CY Program Assistant teams, provides instruction and training to lower‑level employees, assists them in completing standardized module training, and works with the T&C Specialist to translate professional development into practice.
Curriculum Plans and reviews activities for program participants based on observed needs, incorporates special instructions from parents, and supports children with special requirements, homework, and life skills.
Indoor and Outdoor Environment Prepares, arranges, and maintains activity areas, inventories equipment, and recommends replenishment.
Interactions and Relationships Encourages participant interest and promotes positive interactions among children, youth, and adults.
Supervision of Children and Youth Provides care, oversight, and accountability, maintains control and safety, and ensures compliance with DoD and local command policies.
Parent and Employee Communication Interacts professionally with employees, parents, and local installation command personnel; participates in conferences and briefs stakeholders.
Assessment Observes developmental progression, documents findings, and assists with assessment tasks.
Compliance Ensures area meets DoD certification, national accreditation, and applicable laws and regulations.
Additional Responsibilities Collects, maintains, and reports program participation data and performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge of developmentally appropriate programs for children and youth 6 weeks–18 years.
Knowledge of child and youth development principles and techniques.
Skill in applying federal and state child‑abuse prevention laws.
Skill in understanding individuals’ interests and motivation in a CYP environment.
Skill in program planning, organizing, and employee scheduling.
Skill in leadership, mentoring, and guidance of CY Program Assistants.
Ability to identify and respond to emergency situations.
Ability to train employees on child health and abuse identification.
Ability to develop curriculum outlines and lesson plans.
Strong communication in English (oral & written) and interpersonal skills.
One (1) year experience at CY‑II (GSE‑04) level or equivalent.
Education
Completion of DOD Standardized Module Training AND 12 months experience at CY‑II (GSE‑04) level.
OR Child Development Associate (CDA) credential OR Military School‑Age (MSA) credential AND 12 months experience at CY‑II (GSE‑04) level.
OR Minimum 2‑year degree in Youth Development, Child Development, or a related field (e.g., Recreation, Physical Education, Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Social Work) AND 12 months experience at CY‑II (GSE‑04) level.
