Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of the CY Program Assistant are grouped into categories: Curriculum; Indoor and Outdoor Environment; Interactions and Relationships; Supervision of Children and Youth; Parent and Employee Communication; Assessment; Compliance; and Additional Responsibilities. Curriculum

— Develops schedules and activity plans; implements activities and events that meet the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs of children and youth; prepares and implements program options for children and youth with special requirements; cares for children and youth with special needs as directed by the supervisor; demonstrates, instructs, leads, and facilitates activities; models safety, fitness, health, and nutrition practices; helps arrange for and/or serve snacks or meals where applicable. Indoor and Outdoor Environment

— Prepares and maintains activity areas; sets up displays; inventories equipment; secures supplies and facilities. Interactions and Relationships

— Creates engaging program environment and promotes positive interactions; uses approved child guidance and youth development techniques. Supervision of Children and Youth

— Provides care and supervision in compliance with DoD, NAF, and local policies; maintains control of whereabouts and safety; supervises during activities and field trips; ensures departures with authorized persons; observes signs of illness or abuse and reports as required (mandatory reporter). Parent and Employee Communication

— Interacts professionally with staff and parents; provides daily feedback; participates in conferences. Assessment

— Observes and documents developmental progress; participates in program evaluation using designated tools. Compliance

— Assists in achieving DoD certification and accreditation; ensures compliance with applicable laws and policies; notifies supervisor of health, fire, and safety concerns. Additional Responsibilities

— Collects and reports program participation data; performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Conditions of employment

Qualifications

Resumes must include KSAs related to the position. A qualified candidate possesses the following levels: Entry Level (CY-1702-01) Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written). Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to complete DoN training requirements within the timeframe. Ability to foster working relationships with children, youth, and coworkers. Ability to work cooperatively as a team member. Intermediate Level (CY-1702-01) Knowledge of basic child and youth development principles. Ability to implement developmentally appropriate practices. Ability to interpret curriculum or activity plans. Ability to follow written instructions. Ability to plan, organize, and work as a team. Ability to promote working relationships; six (6) months of relevant experience. Target Level (CY-1702-02) Knowledge of development principles to inform program response. Skill to implement developmentally appropriate services for individual or groups. Skill to promote working relationships and team collaboration. Skill in verbal communication for program information. One (1) year of experience with children or youth in a CY setting.

Education

Must provide copy of HS Diploma, GED, or college transcripts. Entry Level: 18+ with HS diploma or equivalent; prior experience preferred. Intermediate Level: 18+ with HS diploma or equivalent, six months of experience, and Navy Entry Level training or equivalent. Target Level: 18+ with HS diploma or equivalent, one year of experience, and DoD training or CDA/MSA credential or 2-year degree in related field.
