Operations Manager – Food Distribution Center – Sacramento, CA
Location: Sacramento, CA
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Accountable for the day‑to‑day floor operations of Tireco’s 1.1M sq. ft. distribution center.
Execute receiving, warehousing, and distribution operations programs and personnel policies and procedures.
Manage the daily schedule of product moving in/out of the distribution center for maximum efficiency.
Collaborate with the Distribution Center Administration Manager to maintain adequate staffing levels within budgetary guidelines, and adjust for demand fluctuations through recruiting, selecting, training, coaching, and counseling team members.
Own Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for distribution operations including safety, labor efficiency, picking accuracy, shipping accuracy, cycle count accuracy, and turnover.
Reconcile the Warehouse Management System to keep the warehouse floor and the system in sync.
Develop and implement programs and activities that promote operational efficiency and continuous improvement.
Develop strategies and programs to reduce costs and lead times, increase inventory turns and order turnaround time.
Drive team member engagement through constructive feedback and timely training with performance management feedback.
Manage inventory levels, utilization of space, and storage trailers to maximize flow of product and minimize per diem on ocean containers.
Ensure the warehouse operations run in a safe and orderly manner with an emphasis on 5S and other Lean Operating philosophies.
Maintain the facility, material handling equipment and storage media in good condition.
Establish a culture based on the mission and core values of the company.
Adhere to a monthly/yearly budget acceptable to cost control performance measures.
Complete the monthly expense review and report on facility operating expenses.
Utilize a “Creativity before Capital” approach in managing and leading the facility.
Cross‑train with the Distribution Center Administrative Manager to support/cover in case of vacations, sickness, and other absences.
Required Qualifications and Skills
A BS/BA degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Manufacturing, Management, or equivalent work experience.
5+ years of warehouse operations management in a large (650K sq. ft. or larger) facility.
Experience in managing 75+ dock doors.
Experience with WMS systems.
Proven excellent customer service.
Knowledge of computers to operate effectively with Outlook, Word and Excel.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Experience in identifying and implementing process improvements.
Warehouse and forklift safety. Working knowledge of OSHA requirements.
Understanding of general finance and budgeting, including profit and loss, budget management.
Bi‑lingual (English and Spanish) preferred.
